BJ is in for the ass-whoopin' that will send him into retirement.
BJ has ground game, but is not a striker. He will not be able to deal with Nick's boxing skills. -- I work hard. I play hard. I stay hard. |

But this is one of the best matchups in UFC history. Both fight very similar. Both are Gracie Black Belts and are probably the best 2 boxers in MMA. If it was a 5 round fight I'd lean toward Diaz due to his insane cardio. I don't see either fighter being able to finish one another due to they're being so similar and both having great chins. A 3 rounder I kinda lean slightly to BJ just because I think he's a slightly more technical boxer and can score points with his jab to win a 3 round fight. Also Diaz is very susceptible to cuts which never looks good in the eyes of the judges. In a close fight the fighter that "looks" worse for wear can sway judges.
Plus no one knows what kind of frame of mind Diaz is in. He no showed and disappeared for several days when he was supposed to fight GSP and got taken out of that fight by Dana White and was replaced by Carlos Condit. |

BJ has ground game, but is not a striker. He will not be able to deal with Nick's boxing skills. Not sure where you got BJ isn't a striker...Freddie Roach has said he has the best boxing skills in MMA »www.usatoday.com/sports/mma/post···lities/1 " BJ Penn: "Great guy. I think he's one of the best strikers I've ever worked with. He can really punch.""
»www.mmanews.com/forums/general-m···mma.html "I talked to Freddie Roach about B.J. last week and he told me by far
he said by far B.J. Penn is the best striker hes ever seen among MMA fighters and he thinks that if B.J. can get into a striking match with GSP, he would definitely win that. |

| Freddie Roach better stick to the sport of boxing. And who cares what Freddie's opinion is anyway ? ....just like who cares what my opinion is.
BJ is gonna get knocked the fuck out. You'll see ! LMFAO...
The fact is that BJ is a ground guy. Hendo is a striker.....he knocks mother#uckers out !
Anderson Silva, another striker.....same with Chris Leben and many others in the UFC. BJ Penn is not a striker. -- I work hard. I play hard. I stay hard. |
|
pro7070BJ "The Prodigy" PennPremium join:2002-06-28 Inman, SC kudos:1 1 edit | With all due respect...Freddie trains world champions. And BJ, GSP, and Anderson Silva have all sought out his training. I'd say his opnion on boxing skill is probably a little more accurate than yours or mine.
BJ is 16-7-2 7 TKO's (47%) 6 submissions(37%) 3 deciisions(18.75%)
Diaz is 25-7-0 13 TKO's (52%)8 submissions (32%) 4 decisions (16%)
And actually Hendo's base is wrestling. He happens to have crazy KO power. A striker to me uses all limbs no just hands. Anderson Silva I would consider a striker, but he has a black belt in BJJ as well. The other you mentioned including Diaz and Penn I would consider boxers with excellent ground games. Chris Leben is just a brawler. |

I'm pulling for a slugfest draw
EDIT: Your pm is sent not to accept messages. Don't think were supposed to negotiate on here. But a rematch for a 20 is cool w me. |

Cesar Gracie (Diaz's coach) was trying to renegotiate the fight to be 5 rounds once it got bumped up to main event but I think BJ's camp turned it down due to the fact they had trained for a 3 round fight for 2 months. I believe the mandatory 5 round main events (for non title fights) will begin in November |

I agree with Travis Lutter's opnion "Travis Lutter: If B.J. fights a smart fight and takes Nick down, I would bet on B.J. But if he chooses to fight a standup fight, I think it would be like flipping a coin on who is going to win, with the edge going to Nick. Nick is busier with his hands and has the longer reach. Both guys have great chins. I do think B.J.s Brazilian jiu-jitsu is better than Nicks, along with his wrestling. " |

LOL, what a steamin' pile of BS. On 4 weeks notice? He may would turn it down, dunno. Rashaad Evans turned down a title fight with 8 weeks notice.
But this isn't a Championship fight
Also what I think you might be overlooking is Diaz had been training for a 5 round fight against GSP until he went Awol and got booted. Plus his last 4 fights have been Title fights so he's been preparing for 5 rounders for 2 years now. Would have been a big advantage for him to have changed it 4 weeks out. Not that I blame his coach for trying to get him the advantage. |

It will all depend on which BJP shows up to the fight. If he's not completely focused mentally, and physically, then I predict a Diaz win, mainly based the way he just grinds opponents' will down to nothing. |
|
pro7070BJ "The Prodigy" PennPremium join:2002-06-28 Inman, SC kudos:1 | I'm thinking Diaz is the one that might come in unfocused. He pretty much threw away a big money title shot by missing the press conferences and lying to Dana white missing 2 flights to Canada. Honestly I thought he would have been cut. |
|
IconTime KeeperPremium,VIP,MVM join:2004-01-07 Little Rock, AR kudos:3 | Yeah, Dana has a pretty short fuse, so I'm kinda surprised as well. And yeah, I could also see Diaz coming in unfocused, and even possibly underestimating BJ, thinking he's got it in the bag. |

| So BJ Penn loses to Diaz, and retires...
I was pretty surprised by that. But we've seen that before, and fighters come back.
CroCop retired as well after losing to Roy Nelson, and that I agree with, IMO CroCop should have retired a while ago. It sucks that he never really succeeded in the UFC. -- GO LEAFS GO! |
