[POLITICS] Today is diaper needs awareness day in CT

Score another big one for Connecticut, we are the first state to have a diaper needs awareness day. I was undecided if this was info, rant, politics joke or news. Somehow all seem to fit.

It also looks like our government will help assure poor children get the pampers they need! Turns out pampers aren't cheap, and kids mess in them regularly. Our government has recently learned about this situation and plans to take drastic action!

The story is here - »dailycaller.com/2011/10/26/bet-y···per-day/

Happy Diaper Need Awareness Day! At least to all you Connecticutians.

In an effort to raise awareness about the plight of low-income families to supply their children with diapers, Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy declared Thursday to be the first “Diaper Need Awareness Day” in the state.

According to the Governor’s Declaration, 26 percent of Connecticut children are part of low income families and “the average infant or toddler requires an average of 50 diaper changes per week over three years.”

In designating October 27 Diaper Day, Malloy also encouraged his constituents to “donate generously to diaper banks, diaper drives, and those organizations that distribute diapers to families in need to help alleviate diaper need in Connecticut.”

The Hartford Courant reported that in recognition of the day, diaper activists will participate in a panel discussion on diapers, followed by a fundraiser in New Haven.

“Diaper Need Awareness Day” comes on the heels of Connecticut Democratic Rep. Rosa DeLauro’s introduction of the “Diaper Investment and Aid to Promote Economic Recovery Act (DIAPER) Act,” which would provide diapers and supplies to low income families via child care providers by amending Child Care and Development Block Grant Act of 1990.

Looks like we'll be passing out an extra $100 bucks per tot. I hope our government understands not all months are equal. What if a kid blew (literally) past his or her $100 monthly diaper allotment? Would there be an emergency allotment to draw from?

Anyway it's at least a bit ironic in a humorous way to see our nanny state, literally trying to nanny our kids.

Wonder when our government will discover poor children are less happy without happy meals?

Raising a kid isn't cheap. Who (aside from any parent) knew?

So let's figure this out. How does one become a diaper activist, and how does one tell their parents?

"Mom, Dad. I've figured out what I want to do in life. I'm going to become a diaper activist!"

If one is successful at diaper activism, is therapeutic colon cleansing / enemas the next logical career move?

"Mom, Dad. Now that I have my degree, I want to spend my life pumping hot soapy water up people's butts."

Regarding the former, we need the poop, the skinny, someone has to interview a diaper activist and find out how they attained their lofty perch.

As to the latter, I guess there are worse things to become. Assuming the diaper activists are subsidized by our government, then you and I are paying for their salary. While hard to believe, we may have an inferior position. We're the knuckleheads stuck paying for the diaper activists.

As I rode to work this morning, I saw a young man who has both a state supplied income and full health insurance with no co-pays. He was leaning on his doorway perhaps wondering what would be on TV today. I was enroute to my job working for a multimillionaire whose name was a daily newspaper entry during the financial disasters of September 2008. I do not have any health insurance of any type.

I was reminded of something a dear yet departed friend said some years ago. To paraphrase - the wealthy and the poor are taken care of very well. It's those of us in the middle who have the struggle.

Senate Dem seeks federal funding for diapers

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) on Tuesday introduced legislation that would allow federal block grants that states now use to subsidize child-care services to also allow for the purchase of diapers and "diapering supplies."

I'm way to your left [in case you hadn't noticed] and have a two-month-old son. You just made me laugh [at both possible meanings of your remark]!
