Re: [All] New England Weather

said by Sarah:

We had a couple of pretty striking sunny/blue-sky downpours this afternoon, but I didn't notice any thunder, lightning, hail or wind.

You wouldn't think there would so much energy in the atmosphere with this cool weather!

I'm telling you for a few minutes it went pitch black, the wind was bending thin trees in almost half, hail the size of dimes and nickels was pounding on the house, and torrential rains overwhelmed my gutters to the point that water was just pouring right over the sides in torrents.

It slowed down after about 5 minutes and then was gone in another 10 or so. It was the most powerful, quick burst of wild weather I've ever seen... and that's not an overstatement. It was just crazy for a few minutes!!

The ocean is cold even when it's 100+ outside in the middle of Summer. Only the kids are 'crazy' enough to actually swim in it when we go. Even the dog refuses to go in past his legs.

We lived on a bay as a kid. We had our own ramp, and deep water float. My sisters and I always swam off the float during the summer. The water would reach 70 on many days. If the tide was coming in (thus the water heated by the hot rocks) and a SW wind pushing the water into the cove.

Heat records are expected to be broken tomorrow. The heat index in CT is predicted to be well over 100 degrees in the afternoon.

Amazingly, it's still 85 degrees even up here in central to northern NH at 8:15 PM. (Well, according to how it feels when I walk outside, and checking out some of the weather sites ).
I'm all set though...I had my wife spray me with the garden hose. ICE cold! (The hose that is, not my wife).

It's like wicked friggin hot he-ah!!!

I came into friggin' work early so I could hit the friggin' beach. I was like all " ow-ow-ow-ow-wow-ow-ow-ow-ow-ow-ow-ow-ow-ow-ow" on the way they-ah I broke a friggin' sweat on the way back so I hit the friggin' showah and then the friggin' pool. I got the friggin' A/C crankin' in the friggin' lobby and I'm here buddy. You want a towel Pal? Too friggin' bad, you come to the friggin' office and we'll talk. Too friggin' hot!

I gotta scrape my Boss off the floor because she friggin' fell ovah laughin' and stuff. If you heard this without the friggin' DSLR-filter, you'd be on the friggin' floor too. I got friggin' guests that friggin' talk like this all the friggin' time.

91.1 °F on the friggin' beach.

The highlighted text from the NOAA website has me confused. Does it mean that there will be no showers AT 8am?

Just checked weather.com, it appears from the hourly forecast that for 16 straight hours (4AM - midnight) we will be getting thunderstorms, scattered thunderstorms, or isolated thunderstorms.

That's a lot of thunderstorms!

I got caught outside in the big thunderstorm we had come through yesterday late afternoon... walking, no umbrella, carrying groceries I had to hide out at a gas station when the rain got so heavy that the roads started flooding. And I had to throw away the bread when I got home...

I was at a Relay for Life event in Plainfield, CT when that storm came through and it was weird- we were exactly on the edge as it was passing by. Winds picked up but no rain, and about half the sky was dark and the other half was blue. Fortunately, only a few pop-up canopies were casualties.

As long as it's decent weather on Friday I'll be happy. They should be demolishing our old garage.

I'm hoping that holds true. Hard to know for sure until like 24 hours before. You have to love NE weather.

Funnel clouds reported in Chatham.
Lots of thunder and lightning today.
How much rain? I don't know. For the ? year in a row, I left the rain gauge out last winter and it froze. Call it a quarter wheelbarrow.

I woke up this morning to my weather radio giving a flood watch.
Alas, it never rained all day, and tonight is a light drizzle. If this is cause for a flood, well......
