Re: [All] New England Weather Just got power back about an hour ago. What a mess. Lots of food to toss. We can never eat all that is defrosted in the freezers. I'll do some checking for a place to donate.
Evert time I convince myself to not buy a generator something like this happens.

We picked up an extended rider called "HOMEPROTECTOR PLUS ENDORSEMENT" on our home owners insurance last year that covers everything in the fridge/freezer up to like $1,000. I think it was like $40-50/year to add the coverage which also came with a dozen other things. Lucky for us we only lost power for 5 hours so we didn't need to use it.

| reply to gt1racer I have a cousin in Connecticut. She has been without power since Sunday night. And power isn't expected to be restored at least until the weekend. Her generator crapped out on her so she is bumming.
Maine had about 207,000 without power at the peak. Most of Maine has power back, and toes that still don't should likely have it on tonight.
Some areas of Boothbay lost power for 24 hours. I was lucky and lost it for 11 hours.
I have a couple options to keep lights and heat going. I generally use a 1200 watt power inverter with a 600amp marine battery, to keep a couple lights and my monitor heater going. It will last for days.....
I use a generator if power is out long, but only for the freezers and refrigerator. |

I think I remember the news saying it was some sort of Fungus that the trees had this year causing them to hold on to the leaves longer. If the trees get it for a year or two they are fine but if it extends beyond that, then there will be trouble for the tree. -- Usenet Block Accounts | Unlimited Accounts |

Spork join:2011-07-13 Methuen, MA | reply to gt1racer I mulched up all the leaves on Saturday. Sharpen the mulching mower blade, drop the height down to like 2", then mow a bit slower then normal. The leaves disappear and the lawn gets happy next spring. I typically need to mulch mow the leaves 3 times a year at 1 1/2 hours a time so maybe 5 hours of work to kill almost 1/2 an acre of leaves. -- "We are the Borg. You WILL be assimilated!" -ST:TNG |

6 more bags to the Dump/Transfer Station/Mulch Pile/Whatever.
I still want a Fame-Thrower. A REAL one. If my neighbor shoots me and I blow up, it's OK. I understand. Total Leaf Warfare. |

JRSlaterWhat's that smell? Oh, it's you.Premium join:2008-01-11 Out There | reply to Dominokat My back yard had some wonderful shade... unfortunately they were some of the nastiest pine trees I had ever seen. This spring I went all out and cut every single one of them down. No more pine needles all over the back yard. Bad news, no more song birds either. I have been thinking about planting some more trees, but I think I have changed my mind. I must admit though, leases are so much better than pine needles. -- »www.jrslaterphotography.com/
