[DSL] Frontier Second Connect Billing Fraud

Frontier advertises a second connect line for only 13.95 a month. After calling 5 times, and over two hours on hold, they reveal the true cost which is $53.19

Don't waste your time.

Even after the 'corrections' the second connect line cost around $48. I say around, but I haven't met a staff member yet, that could correctly calculate tax. How convenient for you Frontier. Their computer system can calculate it for your bill, but is unable to calculate it when inquiring about the service....hmm.. whats wrong with that picture.

Everyone expects to pay tax when they go to store to buy something, but they never expect to charge a 'tax' they the store just pockets. That's what digital subscriber line tax is all about.

The new 'taxes' come to $27.64!

Federal Subscriber Line Charge
Non-Primary Residential Federal Subscriber Line Charge (No voice service but still charged the same)

Every time I talk with these people, I get a different answer. Some sales person wants to make a quick sale, and I haven't met anyone yet that could navigate their internal billing system well. Most of them just guess and the bill comes out sky high at the end of the month. I tried adding a business line once, and frontier came out quoting $20 less than what I saw on my actual bill.

Frontier is one of the worst phone companies. They have terrible... terrible customer service, and the wait times usually seem to be 20 - 30 minutes per call to them. Most issues take at least THREE calls to resolve.

I'm actually have been on hold for 25 minutes as I'm writing this.

A tech support rep isn't trained to know the sales tax for each county along with any other taxes at any given time, so ultimately it's up to the computer system to know and calculate the tax. If Frontier is charging taxes on the DSL line, unless it is mandatory by your area, this might be worthwhile to check out: »www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2···ees.html

You can get Frontier to lower the cost if they have in fact connected you a second line as a "New" line rather than a "Second Connect" line. You would just need to dispute it.

NO company can tell you the taxes of your area that is that large. They tell you a rough estimate but that is it. And always tell you that it may be higher or lower. ATT and VZ will do the same.

Thats a choice. If they can bill you correctly, they could look it up correctly.

Unless they have magic midgets running on wheel. Because they "can't" is just used to their own advantage.

It's as simple as tax mapping tables in their database....

That's not the whole issue anyway. Every-time I talk with someone there, they give me a difference answer and sign me up for things I didn't order.

The billing is ALWAYS done wrong.

umm you cannot charge tax on internet services unless you are granfathered in which Frontier is not.

I like how they charge the modem fee even if you use your own. No thanks frontier.

I have not used a Frontier supplied modem since I have had DSL service. It has been a little over 5 years. Two months ago I installed a second DSL line; again I used my own modem. They tried to bill me for a modem rental fee. I called and the rep said they could not remove the charge because everyone uses a Frontier supplied. I then advised them to cancel all my service if that was the stance they were taking. She then transferred me to a customer technical rep. This rep went back through my records and saw where I have never used one of their modems. She then said since she could verify that I was not using one of their modems previously they believed me and removed the charge for the second DSL line. It should not be to hard for them verify the MAC address of the modem that an individual is using.

The service guys give away those modems like they are candy. I now have four modems. If for some reason they don't work initially, they just pop open another box with one.

Not that I'm complaining about that, but over 5 years we pay for the modem over and over again.

I'd rather be forced to use my own, instead of paying $300 for a $50 modem. I've paid for at least four in the time I've had the service.

I just called in to Frontier, and the customer service person was 'astonished' that my total charges jumped from $65 a month to $118. But as usual couldn't fix it.

I had the second connect service disconnected. I wouldn't mind paying $20-$25 for the service, even though the marketing fly-er says its available for $13.50. But not $53!

Frontier, if your reading this email, I'd love to purchase your services for near the advertised price!

Stuff like this is why Frontier should be shutdown...today!! We here in South Carolina need to run Frontier out of the state.

As a new Frontier DSL customer in Michigan, I can tell you that their customer service/tech support computer system is the absolute WORST hot mess I've ever encountered. EVER. My husband works with and trains state employees on the cobbled-together train wreck BRIDGES system that processes food stamp and and other benefit applications, and even THAT works better.

For as lousy and screwed-up as their system is, the local tech guys are angels. Bill, the technical supervisor for my area, came to my rescue yet again today when I tried to upgrade my DSL speed. I wish Frontier would figure out that a little information goes a LONG way towards helping ease the ire of a frustrated customer!

"Second Connect" at the $13 price is for pre-existing landline customers ONLY. When Bill suggested it (before calling the "smart guys" in Washington state who know what they're doing) I told him of the comments I'd read here and the insane price difference. I don't have a landline and was lucky enough to land naked/dry loop before the October 31st cutoff. I wondered why the taxes quoted here were so high, as I don't think it's legal for *any* state to levy all those plus surcharges on a dedicated internet line.

My DSL service has been terrific. Any and all installation problems were the direct result of their ordering and customer service computer systems, INCLUDING the loss of my DSL three days after installation (they reassigned my port!!). I have the 3-5mb package -- the fastest currently available but that may change -- but it runs circles around the Verizon/Alltel 3G aircard speeds and latency we've used for years.
