Security Needs More Offensive Tech.

If I walk up to you in the street and slap you across the back with a pool stick, you have a right to pick up that trash can and donkey kong me off the sidewalk.

How can I track down who sends out malware phishing emails etc?
I guess though in many cases your getting a virus from a seemingly innocent host that was infected like you.

Send out good viruses that spread like a malicious variant, that are programmed to only interact deactivate infections continually.
It would be allowed to spread by malware scanners.

Sorry this probably should have went in Security.

Aah, you're for taking matters into your own hands.
That's easy enough to understand, we've all felt that way at least once.
It's not all legal but it's all doable.
Who's footing the bill?

I think Microsoft sorta did that when they used Windows Defender to wipe out a few bot-nets.

You can't. Best you can do is locate the injection point; usually a compromised host.

Really about all you can do with phishing emails is to report them to Google (if you're using Firefox, there's an item in the Help menu to report a web forgery), OpenDNS Phishtank or Phishtracker here, so that others don't fall for the same scam.

Tracking down and stopping those behind malware and phishing like this is best left to the experts.

I got one in my Yahoo spam folder this morning that was trying to pass itself off as an AOL notification message. Someone needs to tell that particular scammer that AOL is dead for all intents and purposes. They're all on Facebook now.
