Unreliable Sync and Speeds I have the ZTE 831II and I have contacted support about this. They claim it is my inside wiring. Yesterday I disconnected all the inside wiring and am using a CAT5e line directly to the modem from the NID. Needless to say I am still having problems. Yesterday when I last checked it was syncing at almost 19 Mbps now when I checked it was syncing at about 10 Mbps. Yesterday it was syncing as low as 4 Mbps for a period of time. The modem also shows it is losing sync several times a day. Another thing I could do is bypass the test jack in the NID and connect it directly to the line protector to see if that helps. Support has suggested I connect the modem directly to the test jack outside and let it run for a hour or so and then call them. That would be a pain cause of having to run an extension power cord but it could be done. Also it would be preferable I would think to leave it out there for almost 24 hours being that it seems to be an intermittent issue. I have an appointment for them to come out on Sunday. Any suggestions?

So I decided to postpone my appointment on Sunday because a lot has been going on in my life lately. I connected the modem directly to the test jack of the NID for about 24 hours and had one loss of sync. Then I again connected it to the CAT5e line running directly to the modem with the rest of the inside wiring disconnected and I again had a loss of sync in less than 24 hours. Also on Sunday it lost sync several times in a row and Sonic.net could not even see the loss of sync on their history thing because the loss of sync time was too short. Sonic.net ran a test also with the test jack disconnected to test the the outside line meaning the part AT&T is responsible for and they found no issues. I also noticed that when I pick up the phone that I have connected to the splitter that Sonic.net provided I lose about 1 decibel on the noise margin which I get back after the phone is hung back up. I am so sick of the modem losing sync. I am now connected via an old Speedstream that we had lying around from when we used to have regular ADSL a few years back. Yeah it is not as fast cause it is not ADSL2 or ADSL2+ but I bet it won't lose sync. I am not sure if I should blame the modem but I really don't trust these ZTE modems. I have an appointment on the 19th and I will ask for a loaner modem and my money back on this ZTE 831II.

BTW, we do see all LOS (loss of sync) events in our logs, as well as recovered block errors, CRC errors, CPE side errors, etc - we have an amazing amount of diagnostic info. We use ASSIA's level one dynamic spectrum management system, and it's a great platform for troubleshooting and loop stabilization.

reply to Zeonis Did you replace your old DSL filters with new ADSL2+ compliant filters?
|
reply to DaneJasper That is interesting cause the person I spoke with said he could not see the LOS events that I experienced on Sunday even though I was watching the whole time as it quickly synced and then lost sync over and over again. I was watching it on the modem page (192.168.1.1) also.

reply to loadmaster Directly prior to getting Sonic.net ADSL I had U-verse voice which is VOIP that does not require ADSL filters. However all the filters I have been using were supplied by Sonic.net. Currently I am using only the splitter provided by Sonic.net and all the inside wiring is disconnected. Only a CAT5e line is running from the NID along the side of the house to where my computer is and then into the splitter and from the splitter directly to the modem and of course I have my phone connected to the splitter.
