 | [TWC] Joining the SBG6580 woes upgraded to the 30/5 service and had the SBG6580 installed. My issue is with a single laptop that keeps loosing connection to wi-fi. It started about 2 weeks after wonderful service. Now it looses connection at least 5 times an hour. No other devices loose connection to the modem including another laptop when side by side, nor the wii which is downstairs. I know TWC locked out several features of the modem however is it possible to connect my old Dlink dir-655 to the modem and turn off the wifi on the SBG6580? never had trouble with the dlink. |

Do what hob said. I believe to bridge it you just disable NAPT. |
|
 | reply to buckeyefan that's what I thought.. i followed the instruction from another thread
said by buckeyefan:Click on Basic tab
Primary Mode
NAPT mode
Disabled
Changes may require a reboot to take effect.
When you disable the NAPT it will go to Bridge mode ! however, I my router never picked up an IP. It was set on Dynamic [DHCP]. I tried renewing the IP with no luck. I also reset the SBG6580, and reset the dlink. i must be missing something because it seemed to work for others. does it matter what the IP for the SBG is if in bridge mode?
any ideas? thanks. |

 | reply to buckeyefan Just disabling NAPT didn't work for me.
Following this guide got it working for me: »gist.github.com/1130675
The passthrough MAC step seems to do the trick for me. |
|
 | u must disable the dhcp and nat off the SBG |
|
 | I have had trouble with my modem occasionally resetting itself back to default values, so I am no longer using a third party router. It makes TWC easier to blame as well if there are any technical issues. |

| reply to buckeyefan Hate to hear about the problems. They must have had a bad batch come out or they abandoned QC on those modems.
With the exception of a short span where I couldn't have wideband without SH, I've had this modem for 15 months now and I can honestly say it has been the most stable modem I've ever used. |

| reply to buckeyefan I had the same experience with DHCP issues in bridge mode. The mode seems to be very picky - if the router is attached when booting, it won't get an IP. If the modem is allowed to fully boot and then the router is attached, it'll get the IP.
I ended up putting my router in to Access Point mode. That setup has worked perfectly so far. |
|
 | reply to buckeyefan well I haven't had a chance to try it again. After all the resting and trying the first time, the modem all of a sudden likes my laptop again. I haven't dropped connection on it since. From the sounds of it though, I guess I'm better off just usng the modem and nixing the idea of the dlink router. though I may the access point option with it in the future. |

Thanks for the suggestion poolek. I had tried to bridge the SBG6580 for 2 hours without success. After using your tip to plug in the routher LAN cable only after the modem has been fully booted - voila! I recommend this method to anyone who is having problems with connecting to the Internet. |

 | I finally had to bridge mine for the same reason.. Every hour or so one of my devices would not connect to the wireless network. It would see if fine and get a good signal. Just never get any services from the router.
I think there is a 5 device limit put on it since the only time I ever had problems with it was when I had almost everything running. |
|
 | Can't be a 5-device limit. I have over 20 devices running almost constantly. |
|
 | There may not be a limit but every time device 6 entered the network something would stop working. I had so much trouble maintaining the network due to TWs router I was considering canceling.
After bridging the gateway and putting in my own router my connection has been great and the network worry free. |

 | reply to buckeyefan Call custom service. You either need to ask them to turn on "bridge mode", but the clueless reps might only recognize the request as "disable wireless" or "use my own router". |
