Naperville axes redlight cameras

Starting the beginning of 2012, Naperville will start taking down it's red light cameras. Hopefully this is one of many towns that will start to take these damn things away.

Not likely. Naperville's pullout had some unique circumstances behind it - two of its three photo-enforced intersections are on 59, where they'll have to be pulled out anyway for the upcoming widening and can't be put back in without three years of traffic data. It's not like the council suddenly said "oh, these things are a bad idea."

Elk Grove pulled the cameras from one intersection after accidents dropped. Accidents rose, so they put the cameras back.
