Re: [Ooma] How good is Ooma?
Ooma quality is very good. Support is decent. The product is more or less plug and play, assuming you have a decent router and plug your Ooma device behind the router. I've never had good luck putting an Ooma device between a cable / DSL modem and router (which is the default suggestion in the quick start up).
The old plans, which are grandfathered, cost $0 per month. The new plans cost about $4 per month. If I were to look for a similar device today, I'd consider an OBI100 or OBI110 and google voice.
Porting a phone to Ooma costs about $40, porting a phone to google voice requires a port first to a cell phone (get a pre pay phone) then to google. Google charges $20 to port a phone number in and it usually takes 1 business day.
I love my old Ooma plans with $0 monthly charges. Today if I were to start over, I'd port to google voice and use the Obihai ATA devices.
