What exactly do you mean. Is there not back lighting? Or is there nothing at all displayed on the panel. If you have never worked on equipment before and do not have necessary equipment you would be better off sending it to Yaesu for repair.

I'm not familiar with the 2800M but as Hank indicated, you will have to try to be a bit more specific as to what the malfunction is. Lighting or display. Shining a flashlight into on end may assist in seeing if data is still being displayed, should you be missing backlighting.

The back light works. The display does not. Sorry for the confusion.

In that case, does the radio work? Often when the display blanks out it indicates a serious problem (like the CPU died). If it was a programmed radio see if you can (blindly) change channels and bring up a repeater or two. If it can do that open it and check for any loose connections related to the display. After that there is probably not much you can do unless you are an SMD experienced tech other that send it out for repair.

The radio works. I can talk on it nothing wrong on that end just the display is not showing. Guess I will send it to a repair shop. Thanks for the help.

Just a crazy guess, could you possibly/accidentally have changed the contrast to where you do not see the display anymore? It still could be a hardware issue, did you try doing a hard reset to the radio see if the display comes back before sending it out?

I think the 2800 is close to the same as the 2900... Could be the ribbon cable to the display has lost connection. Or the LCD driver has gone south for the winter....

Sounds like it needs to go to the shop to be fixed, unless you wanna pull the face and see if the ribbon cable came loose...

I vote for a loose or oxidized connector. I can't tell you the number of things I have "fixed" over the years by simply pulling it all apart and reassembling.
