I got the same desk last year on a Staples sale, it is truly awesome. I actually left the backs off of the side stands, and it's great for things like my external DVD Burner, and other things that need cable runs. |

I had that desk, too. Don't remember where I got it. I had it years ago, lost it in a fire. The finish held up pretty well in a house fire. I have a picture of it somewhere.. |

I like the backings and they are slightly thicker than paper thin so they hold up well. I really like the desk for the price I bought it for. Just needed a desk to hold a big screen but at the same time didn't occup actual workspace. |

I do agree about holding up in the fire. While our apartment (and building) didn't directly have the fire, it was directly on the other side of out wall (outside wall, joining the other building), and we got a lot of fine, fine soot that came in and covered everything.
Underneath on mine, I keep my shoes on the bottom of the one side, CD/DVD spindles, and some other small boxes. On the other side, I have a small draw set that used to hold some electronic components, and under that I have some books and a tackle box used for other components.
Also works really well for my 5.1 speakers
