 | Will email domain change when TWC buys Insight? So Time Warner purchased Insight. Fine - but what happens to the insight.rr.com email domain? Is everyone going to lose it?
I called Insight and asked and they couldn't tell me anything. Granted, this was a couple months ago. Here in columbus TWC's domain is columbus.rr.com. Insight is insight.rr.com. Will they just keep the insight.rr.com since the "rr" portion still grants TWC free advertising?
Furthermore, what about the equipment? Insight uses Motorola while TWC uses Cisco. I can't see TWC wanting to come through and change all these customer's equipment - what a huge job that'd be. Then again, they're not going to want to keep up the contract Insight has with Motorola, right?
Just thinking that if so much might change it might be beneficial to look into other providers. Might as well do some shopping for the best deal.
Thoughts? |

| Based on changes I experienced elsewhere with another company. I'm guessing the key word is going to be "migrate". I don't expect any serious changes when TWC takes over... YET ... They now are probably working on packages for each of our areas (Louisville, Evansville, Columbus etc) and will at some point send us notices and welcome us and tell us about them etc. Then they will let us know some of the "features" they have which will be the new packages and people will jump aboard (yes sadly probably costing more money), leaving Insights name to fade off. I dont expect this to happen in weeks I think with will be a quick change taking long term.
At this point as for the email, I might suggest you move to like Gmail or one of them. and have your insight email to forward to your new email, this way when changes like this happen it wont be too much of a issue. You can log onto your insight from the website and have it forward to a new email. -- Intel I7-930 2.80GHz, X58A-UD3R Mobo, G.Skill 6GB Triple Channel Ram, XFX 250 Video, 5 VelociRaptors Running Raid 5, Windows 7 Home Premium x64, |

 | Well ALL of us that went from Insight to Comcast, DID loose the Insightbb.com domain. ALL Insightbb.com e-mail addys were automatically assigned new comcast.net addys - or if the like "@comcast.net" name was already assigned, you were given something close to it. So since Insight will NO longer exist, I see no reason to expect it to survive after TWC takes over. Why would TWC want another company's name (even one that they bought) to still be around, when they would much rather have a current domain name be used?
To go along w/Matt above - nobody should have been using their ISP's e-mail anyway, just because of these situations. (not to mention if you ever have to change ISP's for ANY reason out of your control) Best start migrating ALL your e-mail over to something like gmail or yahoo - then you will NOT have to revisit this again when TWC gets bought out, changes their name, etc. (or at least VERY unlikely anyway) |

| reply to TelecomJunky Hopefully people will learn not to use ISP e-mail addresses because they are subject to change at any time for reasons like this. You're much better off using a free e-mail provider, preferably one of the big ones, so it's less likely to change in the future. |

 | reply to TelecomJunky When Windstream bought Alltel, the alltel.net domain hung around for at least a year or more. We were notified at least 6 months in advance that our emails would change and they forwarded email with the alltel.net domain for a time after the change. We had very few problems with the switch. Hopefully TWC will migrate Insight's email in an orderly manner. |

| reply to TelecomJunky Will the domain change when TWC takes over completely? The answer is YES .. That's a given.. WHEN will it happen, no one really knows at this point. From past exp with other carriers they usually do fade out the domain but its not an over night process..
(This is why I have never used an ISP's email address for important things) |

 | reply to TelecomJunky For gods sake use gmail or yahoo or something instead... I learned this lessen years ago between the bellsouth to att, to insight etc..
Had the same gmail account since it was first in beta. I don't even know my insight password. |

| I currently use a Gmail account for that matter, but I did have an account with Bellsouth when they got bought by AT&T. They did end up keeping the @bellsouth.net domain for existing users, but anyone who signed up after that point ended up getting an @att.net address. Not sure what Insight will do. |

 | That was for a diffrent reason, now the insighbb names might disapear but the insight.rr.com might not since there *.rr.com names. |
