yes, you're not the only one. It happens every few months or so, and it'll go away after a couple of weeks.

I am aware of that fact that this happens every once in awhile and it takes a few weeks for them to fix it. But it's already been more then a few weeks since this last episode started.

Really doubt its your modem. It's their network. I wish more people would post so it makes them aware it's a wide spread thing not just one or two people.

My understanding is that some people got free speed upgrades? Do you have a Twitter? They seem to respond faster on there than any where else (phone, email, etc.).

My friend's friend on New Ave. is having the same problem, I'm near Alhambra Ave. Same node? They said it's not an overloaded node issue, my modem signals are fine... I don't know what to think any more.

I'm supposed to have 18/2, but some Speedtests show all sorts of rando speeds.

I'm sometimes getting 34/5, 34/3, 20/3, etc. Also sometimes when it's bad it's like less than 5mbit, but the upstream is strong at around 2-3mbit/sec. It's usually around end of summer and around tail end of the year that this keeps happening...

Edit, I just tested 32.3/4 lol...

Where do you get their twitter info? I haven't seen any speed upgrades here. If you do a tracert www.google.com during the times you are having a problem, you will see it's a problem with their network.

Regarding Twitter, you can get whoever's "on call" by tweeting to @Charter.

I've had good results resolving problems quickly with this route in the past (actually, just this past weekend with a PPV football game).

Yeah, sorry - @charter them, and one of the employees will get back to you. I was working with @CharterDylan in the Charter Direct sub-forum last year -- he was really good.

Here's an interesting thought. Was there a "free" speed/tier increase last year around September? I opened a ticket back then when I was having problems. I remember a tech saying that there was some kind of an increase.

I just read that there has been a tier adjustment: »Charter Changing Speed Tiers [66] comments

Also it seems like we're only having problems when we get "speed increases," but I'm not sure. It's weird that all they tell me to do is run speedtest.charter.com but that will always show 30/4 but when I play a game, it stutters (west coast, LA server) and when I do speedtest.net it's inconsistent. @charter told me that they "can't control anything once it's outside of their network..."

It's interesting that they say outside their network. The traceroute shows the high pings really is in their own network. It's all mtpk.ca.charter.com that is having problem.

I do notice each time they do a speed increase they have this issue. I posted on direct forum and they are sending a tech out. I just hope they don't bill me for their problem since they come in the morning and this issue is normally only at night.

If your issue gets escalated, then they will send out on-call techs when your'e having problems. Some of the night techs gave me the supervisor's number and when I call him he sends out a tech (this was last year).

They sent me a new modem but I'm still having same problems (obviously wasn't the modem to begin with).

Well the tech came out got my power levels within range. Less then an hour later the problem started again. He said he has been four locations in the same area, with the same problems I am having.

Yeah, some guys on twitter were planning to send some techs out to be but I should probably cancel it as they would say the same thing.

What part of MPK do you live at? I'm near Keppel

I forgot to ask regarding your problem, did your tech fix anything?

You also stated that he's been to 4 other houses with the same problem. Did he mention what the remedy is/will be?

I have a tech scheduled today from 3p-5p, but honestly the problem doesn't start till after 6-8pm, lasts till 12am, sometimes longer...

The problem hasn't been fixed. They are bring me a new modem sometime today.

He never mentioned if he fixed their problem or not.

Yep, same deal. He gave me a # to call (supervisor) if the problem isn't fixed by Tuesday. They work from Tuesday thru Saturdays 8-5, so they can't send a guy past 5pm (is what the tech told me, lol).

Also their priorities are with the downed customers--ones with no connectivity at all.

I wondered why no one said the line went dead on monday, and the upstream power is now 36 or so, compared to 43 before, on a SB6120. I know you're talking pings and such, but maybe it's related?
The Line was totalled from 9pm one night to after noon the next

Supervisor for our area just called me and he's going to make some calls and hopefully get back to me within a couple of hours.

Basically he said that it may be an over-saturated node that might be fixed in a couple of weeks. I told him about my past experience lasting from Aug 2010 till Mar 2011...

The tech I been working with in Charter Direct forums told me the same thing. It's always been the case that a few people just have to keep trying to get them to notice the problem, this is what makes this forum such a good resource.

Yeah I think it sucks that it has to take "a few people" for them to notice it. I think it's bad enough that we both notice it and they should send someone to investigate regardless...

Something new started happening the last two days. The connection would just cut out and come back. Most of the time the modem doesn't even record anything on it's logs.

Oh ok I thought that was my router that was doing that.

Maybe they are "working on it?"

I hope that is the case. It's really hard to tell what's going on.
