 | [TWC] Wideband and your own modem I was told by support I cannot use a Zoom DOCSIS 3.0 modem and can only use the TWC modem I was given for wideband. Is this true?
I'm tired of TWC not being able to figure out why my SBG6580 loses connection and reboots every time I upload at full speed for more than a few seconds. |

 | Well it really stinks I have to use the SBG6580 which no one can figure out why it won't work. |
|
 | reply to Wolfeman Had a tech come by today to install wideband 30/5
He even gave me an option to choose whether i wanted the new speeds on my SB6120 or he would just give me a SBG6580. I made a wrong mistake and went with the SBG580(thinking it was newer and be more compatible from TWC's end)
It's a trash modem. Auto-restarts when upload speeds sustained at 5mb for more than 4 min. Can't even use 192.168 anymore cause it's password protected by Time Warner.
Should of took Amazon bad reviews that i read a while back with more than a grain of salt. I'm going to convince the tech coming tomorrow to either give me a Ubee, provision my SB6120 with the 30/5 speeds or switch me back to turbo on my SB6120. Fios just available in my area, but it's pretty much a rip-off if you don't get in bundled. |

Re: [TWC] Wideband and your own modem But that's only in FiOS areas. I wouldn't say everyone, either. I know a lot of people who are sticking to Time Warner but are in a FiOS area solely for the fact that they cannot get FiOS installed (apartments) or would rather not have to deal with the reports of trouble they've heard from others, mainly relating to fees. I also know of a few people who went with FiOS for two years and then hopped on over to Time Warner solely due to price.
Out here where there's no FiOS? It's pretty hard to find a DSL user out here these days unless they're on one of the country roads that isn't serviced by Time Warner, and on the flip side of that, where the Telco cannot provide service, Time Warner is stuck doing so. A lot of people use Cricket USB modems or dare I say it, Satellite (both are equally as bad) and I keep stressing to people to push to get Time Warner out to run lines down their street, as the Telco won't even bother trying to push a DSLAM out. Granted, $20,000+ is a lot to ask for just getting Internet installed... Otherwise, a lot of businesses I know are switching over to Time Warner Business Class over a Business account. A lot of schools I know in the area rely on Time Warner providing 300+Mbps lines (Probably Gigabit).
If Time Warner is itching for money, I doubt they are going to try and do it the way Frontier does it for example, by making modem fees mandatory. You get charged for their silly Wireless Cable modems (Those old RCAs that run like crap?) if not on Wideband/Extreme, unless that has since changed, but otherwise as far as I know the modem is included in the service. Ever since Time Warner completed the DOCSIS 3.0 upgrades, I've gotten to know some people who have Wideband and haven't had issues after I've helped them configure their XP Boxes and Ubee Wireless settings to maximize their performance. Granted, there's a street right around the corner from here that has a few of my buddies with Roadrunner service that have seen issues with packet loss on their Roadrunner connections every 10-15 minutes, but that's really it. |
