[Services] Widespread Network Outage?

I\'m on AT&T DSL just south of Chicago and connect through the Elmhurst, IL redback.

I do not see any problems on my end. Modem is connected, local speedtest is fine, etc.

But I cannot seem to access websites on the East Coast. When I choose a speedtest server in MD, it times out.

»www.olm.net in CT is another example.

However, I can access Google search, gmail, etc. just fine. About half of the websites in any random search will not come up. This means I also cannot seem to get to any page that shows AT&T current network status.

I could get to the DSL Reports home page but could not get into this forum without using a proxy server.

Wondering if anyone is having similar problems.

Same problem here, also on Elmhurst,IL redback. My DSL stats are perfect but I have massive packet loss to most websites.

I had to borrow the neighbor's Uverse connection to be able to post here.

First there was an 8 munute wait to speak to AT&T DSL Support that actually was 10+ mins. Leads me to beleive at this time of day they're probably backed up due to widespread outage.

Painful to speak to someone who wants to go thru the plain vanilia test this-test that without listening to the customer. I asked for Level 2 and then he did line testing... fortunately the Ping test failed because the %&^$#$% Internet connection was on its downswing. My DSL modem was rock-steady with all green lights, except when he was doing the test. Its a bigger issue than a customer with a bad modem.

I would say this past week there have been many, many dropouts of Internet connectivity, some creating slow page refreshes; but more noticable when streaming videos like YouTube.

Finally got him to open a Tech & Maintenance Support ticket.

SO HERE IS THE BEST SO FAR....
I get an automated call back, they need to have a teck speak to me... press Zero to connect..... A 20 MINUTE WAIT !!!!!

Support now has a prerecorded message for Chicago area customers stating they're aware of Internet outages and are working to correct the issue. :-/

I was having drop outs all morning here in Yorkville. But now the modem can not log into the network. It can sync so the issue is probably not local.

It sounds like? cmon' it's not that he sounds like he is from another country, it is because he is. Many companies outsource support to India, and they usually have special trainers that come in and actually coach them how to speak more western. Kind of like the TV show outsourced »www.nbc.com/outsourced/ . The only difference is that they have to go in to work in the middle of the night, due to the time difference with the US.
