performance on 3mbps subscription ... approx 7 PM CDT; Fri 7/13/12
southern Montgomery Co. -- where there is fiber optic cable to the "OPM" (connection box where "DSLAMs" are located)... BUT the fiber optic is not connected & I've been told there is no plan to connect it. (why?)

(roughly 1/30th of the 3mbps subscription purchased). This happens most evenings. Thus, the basis of my complaint with the FCC. I've not been informed when or if an improvement of the service can be anticipated.
All I know to do is to continue to log these results, ask for a steeper discount (only $10/ month), suggest that WINDSTREAM make an effort to improve the product they sold & continue to sell-- "high speed internet connection" via DSL.
maybe the FCC will encourage them to redouble their effort?

Pablo

(I'm continuing to post/log the dismal performance of this Windstream DSL "HSIC" ... not sure why, but just to support my complaint to the FCC that Windstream knew or should have known that they oversold this area-- e.g. they are not able to provide sufficient bandwidth to all the subscribers they enrolled in this one area. Unfortunately, they have no plans to improve the situation. This is another matter before the FCC-- that they have no plan to make any changes in this area & are content to leave the situation as is. note that "0.32mbps download" is only 1/10 of the paid for subscription. Sometimes it gets down to "0.05 mbps-- which is about 1/50th the paid for DSL "high speed internet connection" (HSIC) (?an oxymoron?).

Maybe I'm mistaken. maybe WINDSTREAM does have plans to improve the "HSIC" status of this areas "DSLAM"... they've not communicated it. This is July 2012-- this has been going on for over a year. OK, let's just say since JAN 2012-- when I started logging this situation in earnest, here. WHEN IT IS FIXED I WILL BE THE FIRST TO SAY SO & if soon, I'll even add "Kudos" or "at-a-boy, WS..." we'll see if/when they get an "at-a-boy"...

An aside, Windstream is at risk of losing a lot of their customer base if/when the technology develops to loose the limits of bandwidth with satellite &/or cell phone connection- or the "HSIC" via "power lines" comes online...
just saying.
OK, end of rant.

Pablo

this is approx 9AM CDT on TUES 7/24/12

So, pattern continues: decent (at/near paid for 3mbps subscription speed) MORNINGS ONLY-- not a problem w/ equipment, internet, etc. as suggested by WINDSTREAM in their response to my FCC complaint ... while much diminished performance typically every evening after 7 or 8 PM (sometimes sooner).

I'll add to this thread - and Kudos to Pablo for his determination in keeping this going

I'm out in N. Texas, WindStream provides all Phone and Internet out here. I've been here for close to 4yrs, the first 2 were great, I had less problems than I ever had with cable - the last 2 have been ridiculous.

I'm adding to this thread, as customer support and numerous emails to various addresses has shown that it's all a smoke screen - and they will do NOTHING in the end except apologize, I've gotten to where I tell the CSR on the other end to not apologize under any circumstances, as it's useless. Our area has been designated as an 'outage' for the last 2 yrs, so they will not come out regardless of the circumstances - the 'outage' is causing the problem. I've had to actually re-wire my house (externally that "they" are responsible for, NOT internally) to get things working again because I had 'dirty wiring' per the last technician that came out (for a phone issue) and 'jimmy rigged' things to work again.

I've had three managers now tell me that the problem is that they have over sold the area - even though the DSLAM only has 30-40 customers on it where it should be able to handle 300-400, and they fully admit that they are NOT going to turn away new customers. There is no ETA on the fix. We jut spent the entire day with out phone or Internet. I'm personally going to invest about $300 in cellular technology as a backup for these yahoos - I work from home so I depend on the Internet.

Personally, my guess is that they originally got a 'grant' from the feds to provide broadband to the rural areas. From all the income they were then getting (and no loan to payback) they started buying up companies left and right (verified by management) and now the original broadband division is second priority - they probably bought 2nd hand/used DSLAMS from the big guys, and now can't afford to replace/upgrade :-/

I will say that customer service is great - they at least seem to 'try' although the management behind them could very much care LESS. As noted, Pablo had received responses from CS when this thread was first started - since then nothing and obviously the problem not resolved, I'm in the same boat and actively looking for alternatives. This is occurring in numerous places from Arkansas, Kentucky and Texas at least from this thread alone - from that right there, and the experience I've had with Windstream, it's hard not to wonder what is going on...

Right now, my speed is 2.63 down, and 0.62 up - very good for the evening. Although this is rare and probably due to the outage today, normally it's bounces back and forth from the speeds Pablo is getting, to "maybe" the high 1's - and that is all day long, not just the evenings. In the very late/early hours it does seem as though I get the consistent 3mb downloads though - backing up the idea that everything is simply over sold.

Please send me a PM with your home number. Based on what you are describing I do not believe that 'ALL' you troubles stem from a latency outage.

thanks, for the note... Penquin, TX...

(also note that Customer Service will reply to you even inside this thread, but not to me... why? don't know-- suspect i've been labeled "toxic" by Windstream because I've complained... to FCC, for example)

and complaining to FCC doesn't do anything either (my complaint based on "deceptive advertising" that DSL broadband would provide 3mbps service, as per their advertisement).

I've not been told that things will ever get better. wait... maybe someone said 2013 or was it 2014? ha. ha.

anyway, i'm continuing to log the performance of this 3MBPS subscription line: tonight? for example... approx 9:15 PM CDT- 9/1/12- local time in southern Montgomery Co. Arkansas...

that's approx. 1/30 (less than 1/30th ) the 3mbps "purchased subscription service"....

all due to selling more DSL subscriptions than what their equipment will support... in this area...

Pablo

logging actual speed of 3mbs subscription/ purchased DSL broadband)

pattern has been (DSL "speed"):

"OK" (at or near subscription speed) -mornings
"POOR" (1/10 or less purchased speed)- evenings

THIS IS approx 7:30 AM CDT (local) for sourthern Montgomery Co. Arkansas on Sunday Sept 2, 2012... (contrast w/ last night's speed; just above post)...

I've been told nothing can be done (problem is Windstream has sold too many subscribers to DSL to be supported in this area by their limited equipment) and there is no plant to improve this -- in the foreseeable future-- maybe 2013? 2014? maybe never?

Pablo

lol 550+ ping this is nutz, cya windstream hope you like missing out on $1,700+ a month after I switch all my counties over! That's enough to pay for a freaking tower or whatever you need to keep me running good and keeping your profits coming in, and if there isn't another ISP in the area no fear I get 170ms ping 2mbps down on 3g, will be a breeze to get everyone switched over to clear and give me peace of mind that they can at least clock in, in the morning!

HighSpringFL

@windstream.net

(my complaint based on "deceptive advertising" that DSL broadband would provide 3mbps service, as per their advertisement).

Believe it or not Windstream is one of the only ISP companies in America that specifically writes into their customer information pages that and I quote "High Speed Internet: Windstream cannot guarantee speeds or interrupted, error-free service."

We are having the same issues in High Springs, FL. I even called and spoke to a manager at Windstream and told him exactly what the problem is with their lines, He told me that it is impossible for me to know that without access to their system, I had to demand to speak to Level 2 and the Level 2 guy was skeptical and then actually looked into what I said and confirmed it. Then the local guy called me the next day and said he has been requesting the parts to repair their systems for 2 months now but someone higher up in Windstream just doesnt give a damn apparently.

So buckle up kids, Windstreams entire business model is to provide service to rural areas that have no other options, which means they don't care one bit whether you are actually getting the service you pay for.

I can only say this about them, if their local techs ran the company it would be one of the highest rated ISP's in the country because they seem to be the only ones that care and unfortunately they cant do anything to make things better.

I have recently had the same problem here in Whitney Texas..I have been with Windstream since they first offered DSL here. This problem happened after the 2nd year of service..They told us that they WERE over sold at that point and had plans to run fiber to my DSLAM..A year and a half later it happened..what a difference it made and I also was able to upgrade to 6mb service..That was about 3 years ago now and the same problem has started back.. I'm assuming that now they offer higher speeds, up to 12mb if you are close enough to DSLAM, they have over sold again!! This will be the last straw for myself if not repaired by this week..I WILL NOT PUT UP WITH THIS AGAIN. I was patient the first time but fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!!There is a new cowboy in town with wireless service available here up to 5mb and plans to improve up to 15mb..I will be switching this week if my dsl remains this way.Called customer service and was told they would check it out but that was 5 days ago and still nothing but an e-mail asking for me to fill out a survey on my experience.
