Re: [Network] speed drop: 3mbps to 0.3mbps most evenings= most e
lol 550+ ping this is nutz, cya windstream hope you like missing out on $1,700+ a month after I switch all my counties over! That's enough to pay for a freaking tower or whatever you need to keep me running good and keeping your profits coming in, and if there isn't another ISP in the area no fear I get 170ms ping 2mbps down on 3g, will be a breeze to get everyone switched over to clear and give me peace of mind that they can at least clock in, in the morning! |

 | reply to WS customer this is from approx 8:15 AM CDT (local time) TUE Sept 18, 2012 with 3mbps subscription... in Southern Montgomery Co., Arkansas

see a pattern? Early mornings... OK speed. Evenings? 1/10th that speed.
response from Windstream? "nothing can be done" ($10/month discount on crippled DSL broadband access).
any plan to improve access? None that I am aware of...

 | (my complaint based on "deceptive advertising" that DSL broadband would provide 3mbps service, as per their advertisement).
Believe it or not Windstream is one of the only ISP companies in America that specifically writes into their customer information pages that and I quote "High Speed Internet: Windstream cannot guarantee speeds or interrupted, error-free service."
We are having the same issues in High Springs, FL. I even called and spoke to a manager at Windstream and told him exactly what the problem is with their lines, He told me that it is impossible for me to know that without access to their system, I had to demand to speak to Level 2 and the Level 2 guy was skeptical and then actually looked into what I said and confirmed it. Then the local guy called me the next day and said he has been requesting the parts to repair their systems for 2 months now but someone higher up in Windstream just doesnt give a damn apparently.
So buckle up kids, Windstreams entire business model is to provide service to rural areas that have no other options, which means they don't care one bit whether you are actually getting the service you pay for.
I can only say this about them, if their local techs ran the company it would be one of the highest rated ISP's in the country because they seem to be the only ones that care and unfortunately they cant do anything to make things better. |

| I have recently had the same problem here in Whitney Texas..I have been with Windstream since they first offered DSL here. This problem happened after the 2nd year of service..They told us that they WERE over sold at that point and had plans to run fiber to my DSLAM..A year and a half later it happened..what a difference it made and I also was able to upgrade to 6mb service..That was about 3 years ago now and the same problem has started back.. I'm assuming that now they offer higher speeds, up to 12mb if you are close enough to DSLAM, they have over sold again!! This will be the last straw for myself if not repaired by this week..I WILL NOT PUT UP WITH THIS AGAIN. I was patient the first time but fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!!There is a new cowboy in town with wireless service available here up to 5mb and plans to improve up to 15mb..I will be switching this week if my dsl remains this way.Called customer service and was told they would check it out but that was 5 days ago and still nothing but an e-mail asking for me to fill out a survey on my experience. |
|
 | Just for info I got a .03 Mbs download speed last night using speedtest.net, the recommended test site of windstream.. I supposedly have 6mb service!! It took almost 10 minutes just to run the test..Last chance Windstream!! |

 | We are experiencing the same issue. Excellent speeds in the morning and afternoon but around 7pm EST the speed drops significantly. We're paying for 12 Mbps and see that during the day. The evenings are at 3 Mbps or less.
Called into customer support 3 days ago and it was "pushed" to a higher tier of support. Was supposed to hear back with 48 hrs and still nothing. We're located in North Carolina and starting to think that cable might be better than dealing with this.

2 edits | reply to HighSpringFL said by HighSpringFL :"High Speed Internet: Windstream cannot guarantee speeds or interrupted, error-free service." It's totally different when these issues are the cause of a companies neglect to follow basic networking principles.
They're members of the Broadband Forum, yet it seems they've never read a technical report. TR-101 would be a good start.
I thought my ILEC was bad, but they're top notch compared to Windstream, CenturyLink, and some others.. lol |

 | reply to WS customer sigh. am continuing to chronicle the saga of substandard performance of Windstream's "3mbps DSL highspeed internet connection" which they have oversold in this rural area. As far as I can tell there is no plan to improve their product... (WINDSTREAM TECHs here have quit talking to me-- can't blame them; what can they say? there is no relief in sight... try a satellite?)
most "early" mornings (6-8A.M.) - fine: at or near purchased 3mbps subscription.
most nights (say: 8PM to 1 AM)- poor: at or near 1/10th of purchased 3mbps subscription
this is at approx 10 PM CDT (local) - southern Montgomery Co, Arkansas on MON 9/24/12.

regards, Pablo |

 | reply to HighSpringFL I agree completely with your experience. When I called last week I found out that Windstream only guaranteed 60% of what you pay for. For me that would be 1.8 mbps for the 3.0 mbps plan I pay for. That's ridiculous. I also agree that the service techs are excellent but seem hampered by the politicians and bean counters in the company. |

 | reply to WS customer pattern continues: decent performance early A.M. (e.g. 6AM to 9AM )-- (at or near purchased 3mbps)
poor performance most of P.M. (e.g. 8PM to 1 AM or later-- (at or near or less than 1/10 purchased rate)
this speedtest is from approx 8:15 PM (local/CDT) on Mon 10/1/12 same machine, etc.
an aside: guy from WINDSTREAM called the other day... not sure if this was in response to original complaint to FCC? newest complaint w/ state attorney general's consumer affairs dept? out of the kindness of their corporate heart? He was kind, but not able to give me any specific "hope" for improvement in performance any time soon. One interesting comment, "this (4th quarter of year) time of year is when WS decides where to spend their money improving service for the next year..." also said, "squeaky wheel gets the grease..." So, I'm not sure what to make of it. They will send me a new modem for starters. meanwhile, I'm logging the performance... regards, Pablo |
