| reply to rusdi Just me, my son and daughter and a friend getting together at my house this year. We're all watching our weight, splurging a little for this meal, but trying not to overdo it or to have much left over so we're not tempted to go off plan too much. Three of us are low carbers and the other one is just happy for a home cooked meal.
Roast (a nice beef or pork roast depending on what looks best when I shop on Tuesday) deviled eggs cauliflower w/cheese sauce green bean casserole green salad colored pepper salad w/onion, avocado, flavored with salt, pepper, Key lime juice, no sugar sweetener (I love the contrast between sweet and sour flavor.)
We're going to do a jigsaw puzzle together instead of watching a movie this year. There will be deviled eggs and a veggie tray on hand if anyone is still hungry.

| reply to rusdi I am eating whatever my sisters cook, God save me. JUST KIDDING, they are great cooks!
But there will probably be a roast turkey (maybe next year I'll have a smoker so I can be the one to cook it), maybe a ham, dressing (bread type, at the Inn I worked at as a kid they always made sausage and rice dressing, I like that), my sister's well loved mac and cheese (if I eat any dairy, I'm gonna be sick, I recently found out I am allergic to dairy), we don't make that green bean casserole (maybe we should!), Crut du tait (however it is spelled, doh!), maybe some salad (I love salad, any day, ALL day), and what not.
I want to cook something for the mix, but I don't know if I have the budget left so I might not do it. What I really really miss is the hickory nut pie we had as kids, something you just can't get anywheres.
I think I will make my roast pepper humus as that is always a hit with people. I might even roast my own peppers since we have a gas stove. -- Join Teams Helix and Discovery. | reply to rusdi I have to work, too. But then again, we've already had our Thanksgiving holiday here.
We did something a little bit different this year. Turkey breasts done in a slow cooker with veggies and lentils and I forget what else. -- Jamais le mal naura le dernier mot. La foi et lamour déplacent les montagnes de la haine. - Marguerite (Maggy) Barankitse

| reply to rusdi That comes to mind, maybe I should post my humus recipe here, it is a simple thing to make, but you need a processor, food mill, or blender:
3 cans chick peas, save the water from 2 of them. 4 or 5 tablespoons Sesame Tahini (can be bought at many grocery stores, it's basically peanut butter, but rather than peanuts, it's made of sesame seeds, very tasty) Virgin olive oil, a drizzle 1 tsp+ powdered cayenne pepper 1 small jar roasted sweet or mild peppers, drained 3 to 5 medium cloves garlic, mashed 1/2 bunch parsley, the curly kind processes better, stems removed juice of 1 or 2 lemons if small 2 tsp cumin/comino powder 2 tsp salt some of the liquid from the garbanzos/chick peas
prep:
Coarsely chop Parsley, remove stems, and place in blender or food processor and process.
Drain and reserve 1 or 2 cans' liquid, and pour chick peas in food processor, mill, or blender and blend with parsley until has smooth as possible. Add enough reserved liquid to help the blending, but keep it on the thick side.
Add remaining ingredients and process some more until roasted peppers are dissolved. salt to taste. Juice lemon but don't let seeds get into humus because it will make it very bitter.
Serve with added drizzle of good olive oil. Cold or room temperature. Great with toasted pita, pita chips, or fritos. -- Join Teams Helix and Discovery. | reply to rusdi I forgot to mention, for me the most important part of this day is remembering to be thankful. It should be the most important part of every day for me.
A friend said this the other day, "Imagine awakening one morning to find we only had left in our lives those people and things for which we had given thanks."

1 edit | reply to rusdi Here's our general menu(going to sister-in-laws-tradition)
1 oven roasted, stuffed turkey 1 deep fried turkey Cornbread and bread stuffing Cranberry sauce Green bean casserole Broccoli/cheese casserole Various salads Fruit ambrosia corn Grilled or roasted fresh kielbasa(polish ethnicity) depending on weather. mashed spuds(not purple) gravy w/ drippings rolls probably some more stuff I can't think of.
Big crowd, large family. Everybody contributes and as usual we bring the green bean casserole and the turkey for the deep fryer. I do the fried turkey and grill the sausage, weather permitting.
Forgot the pies-Pumpkin and Chocolate. |
