Request an option to view Animated Avatars as Non-Animated

Is it just me, or are some of the animated avatars just plain distracting ? ? ? I'm not going to single anyone out, but some animated avatars are just plain annoying !!!

I would like for there to be a Forum viewing option, to view all avatars as a static image. I do enjoy seeing other people's avatars --- just not in motion. Because, when you are researching a technical issue, the last thing I want is to be distracted by silly animation.

I'd like to have that option, rather than simply turning off all Avatar displays. That would not be good.

I agree that there are some distracting animated avatars.

On the occasions that one annoys me enough, my left hand just seems to automatically stretch out and hit the "ESC" key - which disables the animation on that page. Quick and easy.

Not exactly what you're asking for - but I figured you might not know about that option.

Nope, not just you.

(As a rule, I find the ESC key method more annoying than the avatars themselves; and I certainly don't want to change the browser setting which controls animations. I use CSS to deal with them, but having the forum feature would be nice.)

I set firefox to play animated gifs only once. That already does a good enough job of reducing the distraction.

If I really want to see an animated graphic, I just switch briefly to a different firefox profile in which I allow full playing. That doesn't happen very often.

I think that using the escape key will do nicely. Thank you dbmaven !
