dbirdman is it possible to add this on the hnFAPalert that way it will save a few headaches once HN7000S gets its rollover update maybe?

would be a great feature.

Adding it would be easy. Making sure users understood it would be a nightmare. I'm loathe to make potentially permanent changes to any user's system.

AFAICT Windows' BITS can potentially be accessed by other programs. I have no idea if that is "easy" or not, but if Yes then a Download Manager could conceivably have an option to use BITS. Then one's BITS bandwidth-limiting settings would take over.

So I see a possibility for something like Free Download Manager (for downloads) though not for HNFAP-Alert as it presently functions.

Hmmm a quick Google on this suggests some such might exist! Pursuing...

I found two programs, both called BITS Download Manager. The one associated with Codeplex could not function with http: files afaict (!) but the one by Matevz Gacnik worked right-off for me.

I only did one download but it looks like you load-up a download and it waits according to the BITS params you set. I might be able to retire Free Download Manager which works good but you have to be careful to set the right Schedule for your downloads i.e. 100a tomorrow (and not today which it will default to) so you can make mistakes with it.

I found this while doing some more checking today:
»support.microsoft.com/kb/306525 says "Click to select the day and time for scheduled updates to download and install." under the automatic update option. It's the first time I've ever seen it mention downloading as part of the schedule. Just to be safe, I've set the registry entries for BITS on 2 of my computers as a backup plan.
