[Cable] mtu 1500 good or 1492

just wondering if my mtu setting is set to high which is 1500 on windows xp, I also have mtu set at 1500 on the dlink 604up router

It depends on what kind of service that you have.

Since you have cable, 1500 is usually the MTU that you would use. Some (a very small amount) of ISP's may use something different.

A MTU of 1492 is usually used for a DSL PPPoE connection.
