Re: [TWC] Fail to renew TWC DHCP issued WAN IP address (Kansas) A new router will not fix it. The problem is entirely within TWC's network... the server ip returned in the DHCP lease is a virtual ip on the headend that a) is not, in fact, a DHCP server, b) will not answer a direct request (ie. a "renewal") -- or any traffic for that matter. I pointed this out MONTHS ago right after they broke it. Supposedly it was routed to my local RDU office, but no one ever contacted me, updated my thread in the direct forum, or, obviously, fixed their d***ed error. |

 | I saw someone wrote this so I was under impression it only affects certain routers. That plus the fact that only certain people seem to be affected.
"So my temporary very inexpensive solution, until I figure out which provider to switch to and which high end router I will purchase etc, is a new Rosewill RNX-N4PS router. It does a DHCP broadcast rebind before the lease expires if the unicast requests are ignored. For the price it actually has an amazing feature set, including up to 4 SSIDs that can be configured separately with some zone control."
Out of curiosity, is this what your cable modem event log is saying as well?
Mon Feb 13 19:33:43 2012 Error (4) Primary address failed, secondary active
Mon Feb 13 19:33:43 2012 Critical (3) DHCP FAILED - Requested Info not supported.
Time Not Established Critical (3) DHCP failed - RS sent, no RA received |

 | Ah so it is possible that this isn't the same issue. The time frame seems right as does the problem though.
My router continually drops its internet connection, though everything else with the network is fine. The only way to bring it back is to reset the router.
This started a few months ago, after half a year of working fine. |

Some routers, like the Rosewill I listed, correctly handle this situation. |

 | reply to cramer Just found this thread, thanks. I now suspect a similar problem in Greensboro NC. Nice to find good info from folks with in-depth tech knowledge.

Sounds like you honestly gave TWC every chance to resolve the issue internally, so now I'd go external. If your local government grants TWC the right to operate you may have some leverage there. In 2007 a complaint letter written to the highest ranking local TWC person I could find and CC:'ed to "Cable Franchise Manager" for the City of Greensboro (NC) seemed to get their attention. You might also try the NC Attorney General at www.ncdoj.gov/cable.aspx . Good luck! |
