Re: [BB PB Apps]For Kims Playbook + discussion They didn't approve the email app that one developer made, but the people who were using the beta version of it said it was very far from complete and was very buggy. After they gave their money to the developer he disappeared.
I'm not sure that RIM blocked the app because it was an email app, or because it substantially failed to work as advertised. -- Tom |

It can also read PDF's and has mobile versions of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. The lack of a Kindle reader is a major handicap, IMHO. As a further kick in the nuts to RIM, Barnes & Noble has scuttled plans for a Nook reader for the Playbook. Both of those readers will be available via Android compatibility in OS 2.0 in February as I understand it. -- "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity" -- a corollary of Murphy's Law "A dog is like a child who never grows old ... always there to love and be loved" -- Aaron Katcher

Wolfie00My dog is an elitistPremium join:2005-03-12 kudos:4 | "Right-click" is really an OS-specific function. What exactly are you trying to do? The closest I've found to a generic right-click is the touch-and-hold idea. Like how it brings up copy/paste menus, or how it turns the keyboard "shift" into "shift-lock." |

4 edits | reply to andyb Some apps I put on my PB,
Piano - We've all seen it on every device but on the PB is the only one I've actually spent hours on just messing around and trying to play neat tunes. There are other apps with this exact name but when you find the right one, you'll know it.
CompRemote Lite - it transforms your PB into a virtual trackpad which you can connect to your PC with their software. Also includes a virtual keyboard with the bottom-left swipe up. Works surprisingly well for a free app.
ScratchPad - Simple app, let's you scribble around nothing too fancy over here.
Free Solitaire - because when you're bored, why the hell not?
Hockeycentral - An app by Rogers Media, clean interface, easy to follow information, nice to have
BooksOnWink - An E-Reader, not the best I've seen but it lets me read my imported ePubs pretty easily. The UI is a little frustrating but it's all I could find that works.
AIR Browser - Simple system browser to browse files on your PlayBook, it does what it says. Makes it easy to delete downloaded files or any other junk you have
Miscellaneous Apps
QR Scanner Speedtest Unit Converter NavitaTranslator
No particular reason, just handy to have around.
Other notes:
I found if you are trying to download wallpapers from the internet, the best size is 1024x1024 It is bigger than the screen but for some reason when you have the exact size, the PB likes to strech and distort it. A simple google search for "Playbook Wallpaper" returns a link (first one) with some neat ones.
To save the pictures, just tap and hold and you will get an option.
Touch Gestures: (Incase you didn't figure them all out)
Swipe to middle from TOP RIGHT: Will bring up your information bar (Time, settings, battery, wifi, etc.)
Swipe to middle from BOTTOM LEFT: Will bring up your keyboard
The HDMI Port is referred to as a Micro-HDMI, you can find them online CHEAP, I got mine from Monoprice »www.monoprice.com/products/subde···id=10253
Can't really think of much else for now. |

What you're talking about is what I called the "touch and hold" technique to bring up (for instance) a copy-and-paste menu, which is indeed very cool. You're discovering these things faster than I did, and now we have our own mod claiming (in the other thread) that you're better looking than I am, too.
The "bookmarklet" that Jeff is talking about is a link to an active Javascript applet. Not sure how copying that would, or could, work. -- "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity" -- a corollary of Murphy's Law "A dog is like a child who never grows old ... always there to love and be loved" -- Aaron Katcher

Wolfie00My dog is an elitistPremium join:2005-03-12 kudos:4 | So I invested the awesome sum of 99 cents on the Epub/MOBI bookreader, and then got a book that I genuinely want to read so it will get a good test over the next few days. Seems to work quite well. It responds to landscape/portrait orientation but does not respond to smaller/bigger gestures, you have to change the font size for that. Seems moderately versatile... control panel screenshot ... anyone who has a problem with "glare" (I don't) can alter the background and font color.
