1 edit | AT&T DSL: Ping High since Sunday I live in Denison and on Sunday I came home from a friend's that night. Ping seemed fine, but once the storm hit around 7 or so the ping got high. Once it hit around midnight my ping dropped back down and stayed fine. Monday ping was fine all day then about 6 or 7 it got high again and dropped once it hit Midnight.
Today it was fine, but now it is high again and it isn't even 6 or 7 yet. I don't know what is going on. I did a speed test last night during the latency issue and my dl and upload were just fine, but ping was high.
It hasn't been too bad while I play games, but I am afraid it could get worse unless I figure out what is going on. I don't seem to be running any kind of downloads of any sort.
EDIT: It just dropped back down....not sure what is going on. Figured it out. This time my mom was downloading something, but that doesn't explain Sunday, Monday or Tuesday night. |

 | This is still going on and I think it may have cause me to go over my 150 GB limit for the month of December. Help would be awesome. I need to know what info people need to help. |

A gateway ping test can show if interleaved mode has been set: »SBC DSL FAQ »How do I do a gateway ping test? -- TCE Weather |

 | any chance this could or would cause me to go over my usage allowed? |

If you have been canceling downloads right in the middle for some reason and then restarting them, that might help you exceed the monthly limits. You would have to do that a lot though.

 | Umm it is very uniform when it happens. Like every day at around 8-9 and it lasts up to about 12. Umm it doesn't effect anything I do, besides I have about 130-160 ping on League of Legends, but that is mute as I can still very much play the game.
It hasn't been much of an issue for the most part, but I really would love to figure out what the issue is. I think I run a test when it happens and see what is going on.
Thank you for the help so far. |

 | reply to d_l Okay so the lag didn't happen last night, but it right now and I attempt to run the tests and I am not getting results. I ran a Trace route and this is what comes back:
Tracing route to google.com [74.125.227.81] over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 2 ms 1 ms 1 ms home [192.168.1.254] 2 11 ms 11 ms 11 ms adsl-99-135-231-254.dsl.rcsntx.sbcglobal.net [99 .135.231.254] 3 11 ms 11 ms 10 ms 12.83.34.37 4 10 ms 11 ms 11 ms ppp-151-164-52-70.rcsntx.swbell.net [151.164.52. 70] 5 104 ms 107 ms 106 ms gar29.dlstx.ip.att.net [12.122.79.65] 6 102 ms 97 ms 98 ms cr84.dlstx.ip.att.net [12.123.18.178] 7 118 ms 111 ms 110 ms cr2.dlstx.ip.att.net [12.123.18.250] 8 175 ms 172 ms 112 ms gar23.dlstx.ip.att.net [12.122.85.73] 9 142 ms 142 ms 147 ms 12.249.185.18 10 104 ms 148 ms 102 ms 72.14.233.65 11 104 ms 107 ms 106 ms 209.85.250.199 12 109 ms 104 ms 101 ms dfw06s07-in-f17.1e100.net [74.125.227.81]
Trace complete.
I then ran a packet lost test at the ip when the latency started and it is pretty bad:
Ping statistics for 12.122.79.65: Packets: Sent = 54, Received = 9, Lost = 45 (83% loss),
This doesn't seem right at all. Now this will all end at about midnight tonight, which is really weird. |

d_lBarsoomPremium,MVM join:2002-12-08 Reno, NV kudos:7 | reply to S_Jake226 On that tracert, the first hop off your computer shows that you aren't on interleave mode. It would be about 40 ms if you were. So that settles that question.
If these problems are confined to evening hours, then you might have a problem at the AT&T gateway, the first hop off your computer. Have you ever run speed tests during the high latency periods? -- TCE Weather |

 | Yeah I ran one just now my download and upload are not affected at all. Some friends have said that AT&T might be doing some kind of quality assurance or something like that where they limit the connection and also thought I may have someone else on my connection, BUT I reset the password yesterday and have checked to see who was on my line and it is just my Mom and myself, so no one else seems to be on the line. |

FrohikePremium join:2000-07-23 Waxahachie, TX kudos:4 | reply to S_Jake226 Hop 2-4 is the AT&T ISP network and that looks fine. Hop 5 is the AT&T worldnet routers and the AT&T ISP have no control over those. That would be like calling AT&T Wireless because your can't connect to the internet at home. Calling AT&T ISP Tech Support will get you nowhere since the ISP network pings look great.
Once the data leaves the AT&T ISP network, its out of our hands. We have no control. |

 | So my only option is to just deal with it? Like I guess that it isn't that big of a deal. I can still do everything I have been doing I just wish I knew what was up. |
