FiOS availability, Steeplechase Community, Deptford NJ 08096

For the last 3 years my Homeowners Association (HOA) has informed any tenants who attend our monthly HOA meetings that Verizon will not allow FiOS in the Steeplechase Community in Deptford, NJ 08085.

However upon raising the same question with Verizon customer service, it's said that our Homeowners Association has been blocking the progress of FiOS availability and the management board of the HOA is unavailable for comment, or won't return their calls.

Steeplechase (as well as 8 other communities in our immediate area) is managed under Mamco. And although the other 8 communities surrounding ours all have FiOS, we are told that Verizon refuses installation and our HOA will not comment any further on the matter.

Can anyone at Verizon offer any clarity regarding this concern?

I only ask because after reading various topics of HOA abuse at the American Homeowners Resource Center on "HOA's blocking FiOS", it seems that cable ISP's often work out agreements with property managers in order to preventing competitive services in exchange for their free service to those who can withhold their communities or complexes from allowing FiOS to offer competitive services.

ISTM the FCC struck down exclusive cable deals in MDU's, but I don't know if such would apply in standalone homes.

Did your HOA mgmt sign some exclusive deal with someone else?

Here is what the HOA had to say when I asked about FiOS:

"The information you were provided was incorrect. Steeplechase in no way prevented FIOS installation. Steeplcahse actually requested the installation 2 years ago. The rest of Locust Grove were newly built communities in the last 10 years and Verizon wired those communities during new construction. Steeplechase being an older community and first built in the 80s, FIOS wasn’t around. Verizon has put a delay on allot of their community new installations due to cost overruns and are focusing on specific areas in South Jersey. I have several communities that were affected by this and are waiting. We can follow up with them to see if anything has changed.

If I can be of further assistance please feel free to contact me.

Alan Tate, CMCA
Community Manager"

Based on a few quick searches and from prior experience while living at The Club At Locust Grove a few years ago, it sounds like folks in the communities surrounding Steeplechase didn't get FiOS until sometime after 2007. The houses directly across the street from Steeplechase were built in 2002. Therefore, what Alan said about those communities being pre-wired when built may not be accurate.

Basically, the same thing is happening here in Bedminster. Neighborhood Association says that Verizon has an easement to run any cables they want, but Verizon refuses to do so. Fios is available 600 feet away, but not here:
said by Verizon :
Verizon must follow strict rules and guidelines on when and where we can build FiOS. Based on the rules of where we can and cannot work in 2011, [your neighborhood], at this time, is not in the plans. I know this is not the response any of us was expecting, but this is the offical word, at least for this year.

It is incorrect that FiOS is only available at The Club at Locust Grove. If you enter actual addresses of the houses in the surrounding communities of Locust Grove on the verizonfios.com site, they all have FiOS available except for Steeplechase.

According to this link (»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verizon_Fi···_details) FiOS became available to the public in 2007.

According to Alan Tate's Statement “The rest of Locust Grove were newly built communities in the last 10 years and Verizon wired those communities during new construction.”

So does that mean that the remaining communities built between 1999 and 2006 were advised by Verizon to make arrangements for a service that wasn't available until 2007?

I've listed other Mamco Managed properties that are for sale in the Deptford, NJ area that have been built prior to FiOS availability, but all have full access to Verizon FiOS Services.

As stated by others interested in the truth, Steeplechase has been (and still is) excluded from the installation of Verizon FiOS.

The research provided does not lie.
