4 edits | Questions regarded to unlimited data usage provide by Sonic? I am planning to transfer from AT&T to Sonic.net because of the 150GB monthly data usage cap. I believe my household fall into top 2 percent of AT&T customers who consumed 20% of their total network capacity. According to AT&T past data usage analysis tools, my household consumed 800GB data usage per month since we do torrent, netflix, youtube, and online gaming 24/7. The AT&T internet package has a download speed maxed out at 5mb. And I am pretty sure the download speed will be doubled or even tripled with Sonic Fusion. In this case, let say my household could properly consume 1.5 to 2TB data usage from Sonic.net per month. Will I get into any kind of troblue with Sonic.net if my household will consume that much data usage?
Also I would like to know if there are any hidden terms regarded to the unlimited data usage which Sonic.net applies to heavy bandwidth user like my household. For an example, will Sonic.net warn me if I consumed over certain data usage? And how long would Sonic.net stand for their unlimited data usage policy? I personally believe some heavy bandwidth user will also transfer to Sonic.net because of the unlimited data usage deal. And soon Sonic.net will be forced to apply data usage cap policy unless Sonic.net is willing to expand their equipment to sustain high bandwidth usage for continuing their unlimited data usage policy . Since a company like AT&T size is not willing to expand their equipment and blame everything on the 2% heavy bandwidth user, I would like to know what kind of direction Sonic.net will go?
Happy Thanksgiving! Peter |

 | reply to peterwong basically you could max out your connection 24/7/365, and sonic wont care.(as long as your not hacking or running a botnet ect.)
my understanding is on any ADSL tho, if you utilize all the up, then the down will eventually slow too...but thats a function of how ADSL works, rather than sonic's doing.
at sonic they charge for bandwith and then let you use it, rather than sell you fictitious speed and 'ban you with' hidden limits. |

 4 edits | Hi Dane,
Thanks for your reply. I live in South San Francisco 4000+ feet away from Sonic.net CO and is qualify for Fusion. That's why I am pretty sure I will have great connection. The reason I am asking this is because I am pretty sure my household can properly consumed at least 1.5TB - 2TB data usage per month if we switch to Sonic.net due to faster speed. When I was talking to AT&T, their customer representative told me they implemented 150GB data usage plan for their service and they will start billing me the following month if my household go over the usage again. And the representative also said I abused their network by consuming too much bandwidth. (around 650GB to 800GB per month). Instead of charging additional fee for $10/50GB, AT&T could've followed some Europe contries and cap the interent connection speed to 160/16 once the user consumed over 150GB in a month.
Dane, since you are asking me to go for Fusion, I guess Sonic.net is willing to take a heavy bandwidth user. In fact, I still have 1 year contract with AT&T and will pay them early termination fee (around $150) and transfer to Fusion because Sonic.net CEO actually cares about the customers.
If everything goes well with Sonic.net, I will ask my friends and relatives to transfer to Sonic.net
Thank you! Peter |

Fundamentally, caps are in place to protect the television business, and now that both our major competitors are TV companies, it's an ideal setup for us.

I migrated my parents' AT&T DSL to Fusion. AT&T was definitely making money off my parents because they used at most 5GB/month. By migrating to Fusion, AT&T gets no money from my parents' line. |

This is another good argument for no caps: By having no caps, we attract savvy customers who serve as "trusted recommenders" to others. It's part of our word-of-mouth formula.

I know Sonic is building out as fast as it can but I find that qualifying for Fusion serves as a better incentive to switch than merely switching providers. For most of my family they are behind an RT and their current usage patterns do not benefit from the extra work of switching. But as soon as someone talks about ISPs, I'm the first to pipe up about the true intention of caps and how Sonic offers quality packages. |

 | reply to peterwong be wary of sonic technical support. If you have a problem will the really come out and help in a timely fashion? Expanding too fast. Need to take care of what they already have first. |

Since you only joined DSLReports.com yesterday your "be wary" flies in the face of most other posters to this forum.
Care to elaborate about your experience? |

sounds a lot like AT&Troll or x-finite puppet speak.... |

Need to take care of what they already have first. I also call troll on this. I have had a few calls with Sonic tech support (mostly tuning the speed of my very poor line) and they have been uniformly fantastic. I've had good support at other ISPs, but Sonic is head and shoulders above the others. |

 | reply to peterwong Hey I live in South San Francisco and would really love to get Sonic.net. Unfortunately it does not look like I'm close enough according to the tool on the Sonic.net website. I live off the Westborough exit, any chance that Sonic will be available in my area? |
