Just to start a new thread from the »[NBA] First 2 weeks of season cancelled... thread. Training camp set for Dec9, first games Dec 25 (triple header). I've seen a few NBA players shopping at the malls and they're looking out of shape. (Joe Johnson)
edit: there are a crap load of free agents this year: Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, Deron Williams, Steve Nash, Derrick Rose, Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook and Brook Lopez.
The NBA does more than baseball for competitive balance with their CBA. The biggest difference is that NBA owners and GMs hand out more dumb contracts than anyone. Also, the NBA has NEVER had any kind of real competitive balance. The Celtics and Lakers have had YEARS of dominance, interspersed with dominant eras by teams such as the Bulls and Spurs. However, there's nothing stopping any of these teams from building something, especially through the draft.
I find it ironic, not to mention pathetic, that this article is coming from Philly, the 5th largest city in the country, and the 2nd most dedicated pro basketball market on the East Coast after New York, and given the apathy toward the Knicks in the past few years, they might even be the tops. -- You're so vain... I bet you think this post is about you.
What is this NBA you take about? I'm done with them this season. I'll be hard pressed to watch the following season as well because of this crap. I work less than a 1/4 mile from the Celtics practice facility so it's big around here but even the diehards are down about the short season. -- "We are the Borg. You WILL be assimilated!" -ST:TNG
Damnit, we were so close to missing the entire season. I'm verrrry disappointed. The NBA is unwatchable-and they knew it, hence the deal. They knew few gave a shit.
How is it unwatchable? Last year was one of the most watched NBA Seasons. Lots of young stars that are up and coming and are excellent to watch. A nice thing to see about these new younger stars is that they don't seem as diva'ish as Lebron!
