Re: [Internet] Trouble with Fibe 25 and Sagemcom Modem

Can a mod please change the title of this thread to "Bell Fibe - Sync, No Surf Problem"?

The signal to the TV sometimes cuts off...says "signal lost". The internet goes down occasionally and rebooting the modem is the only way "back". It doesn't happen with any sort of pattern but it is happening more now.

Yes, but when that happens... do you sync... if yes, can you ping and trace route?

It's better know as connect can't browse.

Whether we call it sync-no-surf or connect-can't-browse, I'm still getting it 4-5 times a day with my brand new fib 25/7 with Sagemcom and brand new fresh drop. Extremely irritating, and to the extent I have to power cycle the modem to get things working again it makes server applications kinda useless.

Anyone get resolution on this yet? I'm seeing it happen regardless of torrents or other p2p stuff running, which isn't to say that the throttle boxes aren't responsible however.

I'm wondering about a stop-gap solution of having a program monitor for surfability, then when it fails, login to the sagem and click Reboot from the web interface. Anything like that around?

Bell pulled the famous surf no synch experiment back when bandwidth was unlimited. They actually tried to lead on like the firmware on the speedstream 5200 was the problem. Yet people with their own dsl modems had the problem on *all* their dsl modems. This is coming at a time when Bell is losing many subscribers to cable internet. If Rogers actually gets rid of throttling Bell better rethink their surf no synch strategy because this time most will just say adios.

Ask them to put you on a profil with noise impulse on... it goes by the name of maintenance profile. I've heard people saying it fixes the problem.

@bell.ca

Thanks for the information, Kovy, I'll try that.

Chuck, not that it would surprise me that Bell is doing this on purpose, but was it ever positively confirmed either back in the day or more recently that "sync-no-surf" was/is an actual technical strategy to mess with high-bandwidth users or similar? I'd have thought that mere throttling would be sufficient...

Hello guy's, been reading your threads and this issue has nothing to do with the sagecom modem or the cellpipe modem. It is an issue with the fiber equipment in your area. You are on an oslam, where as new areas are placed with alcatel 7330 cards that are new technology. It will be resolved soon.

I had Bell Entertainment before Bell Fibe was launched. I never had this issue. But now that I have Fibe and a new modem, I'm experiencing the problem. Did they downgrade my OSLAM?

elgaland

I was fine from the install last summer until Jan 20, 2012. What changed? Area is north york (lawrence/bathurst-ish).

Same issue here. I was beginning to suspect my beloved Asus RT-N16. Happens about once every other day for me, and is fixed with a modem reboot. Shows sync. Use in bridge-mode. Coxwell and Danforth.

No, but your profile is different.

The surf no synch issue of course affected all bandwidth users. I think it was something similar to what Rogers does now. Selectively disconnecting and reconnecting people in both Brampton and Mississauga. I guess it would save enough on bandwidth for say a box chocolates for all the employees at Christmas time.

Doesn't even make sense... unless this was intended to be a joke.

What is the expected upgrade to the oslam situation?

Same problem with my fibe 25 in ajax. I have had both the cellpipe and now the connection hub. Both of them have exhibited this problem. Just had a tech out today and he replaced the NID and POTS splitter. Yes I am on an oslam as well, are all oslams being upgraded to alcatel equip?

I went 12 rounds with Bell over this problem, including going to Corporate Customer Care. They basically admitted the problem was being caused by the throttling hardware/software that they employ and refused to do anything about it stating that in March the throttling is being removed and the problem should then go away.

Over the course of the 3 weeks that it took to get to the end of that process I must say that i experienced some of the worst customer service ever. It's really sad that given my experiences with ISPs over the last year I can honestly say that there is not 1 good ISP in all of Toronto.

I've got them tweaking my profile over in the direct forum - after round 2, i've now had an entire night of torrents running without getting the sync-no-surf problem.

Although the problem sometimes seems to be triggered by starting a torrent, I also get it when not running any p2p at all, so that's a pretty messed up throttling situation!

Can you elaborate on how they tweaked your profile? How can the rest of us get that done?
