There's a discussion here on the the lost art of downloading headers for more info. -- "I'm just a human being trying to make it in a world that is very rapidly losing its understanding of being human." - John Trudell |

Since no one bothered to answer my question i had get a newsdemon trial account to find out and they do not support compression. It seems that giganews and astraweb are they only ones that do |

What software are you using? Header compression has to be supported on the provider side and in the client's software as well. Might want to look into your software documentation to be sure they support it. -- "I'm just a human being trying to make it in a world that is very rapidly losing its understanding of being human." - John Trudell |

No, Newsdemon is a Highwinds reseller. They have been for years. When I run a tracert, I can see the Highwinds servers.

pb5kCan't TriforcePremium join:2005-11-16 Glendale, AZ | reply to bluedyedvd Yep, my mistake. I emailed UNN support and they said they DO NOT currently support compression, but it "should be there in 2 months" or so.
Now the question will be which version they will use, since there are different implementations (zlib,gzip...etc) . ; ) -- "I'm just a human being trying to make it in a world that is very rapidly losing its understanding of being human." - John Trudell |

I pinged the servers and the IP didn't resolve to Highwinds, I pinged it again when you said this and it does resolve to Highwinds now. Maybe just some momentary error.
Either way I am kicking myself hard to getting in on that $6 unlimited deal. I've had Newsgroupsdirect for $5 since Black Friday 2010, and at that same time I signed up with 2 other services and I had an existing Astraweb subscription. I wanted to try and see what was best.
I was planning on doing the same now, comparing Usenetnow (got in on the Black Friday deal), Newsgroupsdirect and Newsdemon, but NGDirect and Newsdemon sell the same damn service.
Oh well, only $6 down the drain.
In 2010 I was fed up with some Astra issues and now I'm fed up with some piss poor completion from Highwinds. We'll see how Usenetnow fares. It isn't cheap but maybe it'll be worth it. |
