Optimus2357Premium join:2010-11-21 West Warwick, RI kudos:1 | Best Newsgroup Program So last week I finally took the jump to newsgroups. I went with Newsdemon as my provider and got started. First I went with News Rover, but I didn't like the search UI. So I tried Newsbin Pro. I was loving it until the nags started happening asking me to buy a key and now it has locked all download. So I thought before I put down money for a key I would see what open source has to offer. I did a quick search through Google, but nothing immediately came up. Anyone have any recommendations? |

| reply to Optimus2357 I use sabnzbd. Quick and simple and has 2 nice benefits. 1 it can be run through a tab on any internet browser and 2 its super simple to set it up like a server so if you have multiple computers in the house you can easily stream stuff from the sabnzbd computer to others in the house etc. |

Optimus2357Premium join:2010-11-21 West Warwick, RI kudos:1 | Ok. LOL. So I downloaded SABnzbd..and now I have a new problem/question. What is the best Usenet Indexing Site to use? Right now I am using nzb.su. Liking it so far. Thanks for the info. |
|
 | reply to Optimus2357 There are quite a few indexing sites to choose from. Here are several options: »www.newsgroupreviews.com/usenet-···nes.html
A couple popular sites are Binsearch.info (free) and Nzbmatrix ($10 on-time fee)

For the software side, I also use SAB with Sickbeard most of the time for downloading NZBs. If I want to pull headers (read articles manually), I use Pan which is free.
For indexing sites, they all have advantages & downsides; they are all useful for different types of searches. There really isn't a dominant "Winnar" IMO. Best thing to do is just sign on with several, and stick with a set that suits you.
For raw searches - Binsearch.info and Mysterbin. Once I learned how to use them, they were full of awesome.
For user-submtted NZBs - Newzbin and NZBmatrix. They're good, but they've both been wonky lately and both cost money.
NZBs.org has a nice, clean interface that I like (kinda like NZBmatrix minus the bs). Womble's is excellent for rss.
It is smart to be familiar with several, we never know when circumstances might take one down temporarily or permanently. -- "I'm just a human being trying to make it in a world that is very rapidly losing its understanding of being human." - John Trudell |

 | reply to Optimus2357 I use for raw searches:
»www.binsearch.info/ »www.mysterbin.com/
Mainly those two because of the ability to look into rar files and see what is in them, really powerful feature.
I like this search site too because it shows all kinds of details on files you search for like activity and rating.
For indexing I use filesharingtalk.com. It is free and they don't ask you for any money whatsoever.
Sometimes I use NZBTVSeeker.com when I need to get a whole season of a TV show.
I use release blogs to keep up with what has been released:
sceper.eu scnsrc.me rlslog.net
Also some good sites to keep bookmarked:
»www.abgx.net/ »www.orlydb.com/
Using all of those, I am able to find 99% of what I want for free.
I use Newsbin Pro 6 to download. To me, for a lifetime license, it is worth the money. SabNZBd is good too for starters though. |

Optimus2357Premium join:2010-11-21 West Warwick, RI kudos:1 | Thanks for everyone's help. I decided to go with SABnzbd and NZB.su. I like the simplicity and low resource footprint. I also like the ability to network the downloaded files and file share. Basically I am just using it music. Between Ondemand, Netflix and Hulu, I have more AV content then I can ever watch (for me). I may switch to Newsbin Pro depending on what kind of throughput I see from SabNZBd I see over time. Who knows.
But now I have a different issue. SabNZBd integration. I am going to start a new thread on that though. Thanks again! |

Re: Best Newsgroup Program You can also take a look at the program Unzbin it's basically like the Utorrent of Usenet. It basically watches a folder that you drop the .nzb files into, it grabs the nzb and starts to download. It then deletes the .nzb from the watch folder.
It's very hands off...
Personally I use News Bin Pro, I would probably use Unzbin if it allowed me to specify Master and Fill servers as I have a monthly subscription account from Easynews, and a Blocknews account. (I only use the Blocknews account for filling missing parts that aren't found on Easynews) |
