| Good CT Diesel Repair Shop? I'm looking for a good diesel repair shop in the Middletown area, someone with the tools and talent to properly diagnose a potential fuel problem with the 7.3L PSD in my Excursion. Low power, low boost, poor throttle response, I'm thinking HPOP, but before I spend the serious $$$ to replace it I want it diagnosed.
I can go to the dealer, but I'd prefer to find a talented independent instead of someone that only knows how to plug in a scanner and read the codes (so to speak).

We used to get pre-electronic control* injection pumps re-done by Acme, but that was 20 plus years ago. I haven't been there since.

If you strike out let me know. I have a number of friends who operate trucks, and should be able to figure out who's who. I'm largely able to do most of my little gasoline stuff DIY, so I've lost touch with labor rates. $100 or more per hour is likely the norm these days. Is Jukonski still around? They should know what's up too.
*Boring anecdote #312 - When I was 9 years old (1966) the father of a friend was an electronics genius who worked out of his home. (I wish he could have lived to see CPU technology at work) Anyway, one day I walked in and asked him what he was working on lately, and he replied "An electronic diesel injection system for Dana." I replied something like, "Oh, that's nice" but had no clue what he was talking about. In those days, advance and retard within injection pumps was done by centrifugal devices. Forgive me the obvious, but electronics have pushed vehicle technology into a new realm of efficiency and reliability (most of the time anyway ) When I hear someone say "I miss points and condensers" I feel like asking, What are you f'n kidding me?" |

Greg Not sure if they are too far for you, but I would highly recommend Courville's Garage:

232 Route 163 Montville, CT 06353 (860)848-1221
I've seen Mack sub out diesel work that they couldn't fix to them. Give them a call and see what they can do for you. Good luck. |
