Re: said by robbin:First of all, their software is quite good and not garbage at all. It is free and can be used even if you don't own any of their products as it allows streaming to any networked computer. But if you don't want to install any software, then you just go to www.mysqueezebox.com and add the URLs there. Still just as easy! Actually, their software is really craptastic for the reasons I cited.
Having to reflash the radio every time I switch from PC streaming to Internet Streaming (and vice versa) is really stupid. I am forced to do this because the Logitech Server Software on my PC crashes and I had to down grade it to something stable.
But the best news of all its that Squeezebox is becoming rapidly obsolete, if not obsolete already.
I just got an LCD TV, Bluray, and Onkyo receiver...all of which have internet connections which allow streaming all the stuff Squeezebox can and even more.
All devices can be remote controlled with an Android App, and best of all, all devices including a smart phone are DLNA compatible so anything can stream to anything else.
Admittedly it doesn't always work perfectly but its far superior to having to reflash the Logitech.
I am sure you will be seeing more of them on Ebay as time goes on because DLNA does everything the Squeezebox can and more. |

Re: Internet Radio Maybe I'm just exceptionally lucky but my Squeezebox Touch has worked perfectly from Day 1 and I've never had to fiddle with it or reflash anything to make it behave properly. It does NOT feel cheap (in fact, I'd say it's quite substantial) and I love the UI and color touchscreen. I can control it via its own remote, with a free smartphone app or by directly touching the screen. It responds way faster than the DLNA menu system on my Onkyo receiver and is more user friendly.
Regarding network connectivity...
Wired or Wireless Connection: The Squeezebox Touch allows you to connect to your computer and the Internet via a hardwire (Ethernet) or wireless (Wi-Fi) connection:
Wi-Fi Connection: The Squeezebox Touch offers true 802.11g (802.11n and 802.11b compatible) wireless technology that lets you enjoy your music stored on your computer in any room of your home, without wires. The Squeezebox Touch offers one-touch setup with compatible WPS-supporting routers. The Squeezebox Touch supports WPA Personal, WPA2-AES, and 64/128-bit WEP encryption. Ethernet Connection: The Squeezebox Touch features a rear-panel RJ-45 Ethernet (LAN) port which connects to any 10/100 Mbps Ethernet network (with Auto MDX)

 | I've got the Grace Allegro and, so far, it's been great. Even with only the built-in speaker the sound is decent enough for day-to-day portable use. Connected to some good quality speakers it's really nice.

Re: Internet Radio said by Steely:Maybe I'm just exceptionally lucky but my Squeezebox Touch has worked perfectly from Day 1 and I've never had to fiddle with it or reflash anything to make it behave properly. I suspect the big difference in our experience is the size of the mp3 library served by Squeezebox Server. Mine is in the 100's of gigabytes. The latest versions of the server are unstable when they scan Itunes and therefore I had to downgrade....which makes me re-flash everytime I switch libraries.
Certainly you have been forced to do upgrades..not a big deal if you know your way around things but a big pain for non-technical folks who are expecting something that looks like, sounds like, and plays audio like, a radio.
Onkyo has a web site that lets you populate their receivers with favorites so you dont have to use the remote. Its just as easy to start a stream up, and the sound is way better. |
