[CATV] (Columbus) to stop carrying ABC and Fox Jan 1, 2012?

A friend of mine said something about seeing a crawler on their screen last night when they were watching Once Upon a Time on ABC and it said that Insight will stop carrying ABC 6 and Fox 28 effective Jan. 1, 2012. I found something on a local news site that sort of confirmed this but only mentioned ABC 6 would be going away and didn't give much more details. I told her I'd post on a site for Insight customers and see if I could get more info.

Does this apply to only ABC or ABC -AND- Fox? Is all this just the normal scare tactics/rate increase dance that all cable companies do from time to time or since Insight is being bought by TWC, maybe content providers aren't interested in doing a 6 month deal with Insight since I heard the transition will pick up steam in the coming months and should be completed by mid-2012?

It's a carriage dispute between Insight and the station owner Sinclair Broadcasting. They also have stations in Cincinnati which is a My Network affilate and WDKY in Lexington KY which is Fox. Both of which are carried on Insight systems in NKY and Lexington KY.

Insight had the same issue with Raycom last year and that was settled quickly. Sinclair is paying hardball with Insight and now insight is being sold to TWC probably complicates things.

One must bear in mind that usually the Buckeyes are a forcing function on these disputes when they're around New Years. No such luck this year, so it's possible Insight/TWC might feel able to take a harder line.

Sinclair truly makes one search for words to describe the depths of their odiousness.

This applies to ABC 6 (WSYX) and FOX 28 (WTTE) -- I've seen the crawls on both which are actually even seen on the OTA broadcast..

My guess is Sinclair is up for contract renewal with Insight and wants to get as much money out of Insight before the transition to Time Warner completes... (one would note that Sinclair has had same disuptes with Time Warner in the past)

I side with the cable companies on this one ... These tv stations bombard us with tons of ads, late night informericals etc..and want MORE and MORE money.. Back in the day these stations are also the ones who whined to get Must Carry pushed via the FCC that required cable companies to carry over air stations... kinda funny how it works... You must carry my signal if I demand you too but I can demand you to drop my station if YOU dont pay me what I want you to pay to carry it.

Typical Sinclair Pissing Fest with CATV operators, nothing to see here, guess Sinclair caught wind of Insight going to TWC and figured they would pull what the did with TWC a few years ago, which allways backfires.

Frankly the garbage Sinclair calls programing (mostly there half-arsed news) is overpriced even for free, they truly believe in the Fox News way of drumming up raitings. Not that 10TV or NBC4 are that much better.

Yep.. and If I remember TW breifly dropped them? I know when Time Warner had that spat with the owners of WWHO they were not afraid to yank them off air when the contract ended.. Dispatch group tried the same crap many years ago when Time Warner refused to carry the Ohio News Network on "basic tier" ... Dispatch threatened to pull WBNS TV from TW because TW refused to cave... (they eventually reached an agreement and ONN was put in the basic digital tier)

Yep, i think they sugested people get DirecTV to watch the buckeyes, seems to allways "happen" during osu football season either its bad timing or just a ploy to get them to cave. Frankly TWC, take us over, change the stuff out so we can get used to your BS allready! Insight is doing bare min now to fix stuf.

Any sort of company has to go thru these types of negotiations. TWC went thru it last year. I would be surprised if any company didn't pay the price to carry local channels. At what point does it get too much for the cable companies? That is the reason that they go up in price. Not really to get richer.

The argument made is that its signal that anyone in the area can snatch from the air for free. The advertisements on the local channels were supposed to fund the operations, but with each network charging the affiliates more, they are now seeking to leverage that programing and justify charging cable companies more and more. What Sinclair in this case doesn’t realize is that if they yank it from Insight, and by proxy TWC 2.0 come this spring that while there will be a small cost to get the necessary antenna and box, people can still view their garbage for free over the air, or will just not watch their garbage and thus hurt their precious ratings. Personaly I say dont pay Insight, as Sinclair is predictable, every renewal they pull this around here. Let them explain to ABC and Fox why this DMA had a drastic drop off of their programing being viewed on a cable system.
