 | Small Coastal Villages w/ Fishing? I'm tired of Baja (and skeered) so I'm looking for something up here along the coast. But I want small ... not too big of a tourist trap. I want to walk my rod & reel out on the dock/pier and spend the day without all the hustle and bustle of Ferris Wheels, etc.
Anyone? I don't want to go any farther north than SF. |

 | Know any Marines? Pendleton is the only place I know of that meets your criteria.
San Clemente, maybe? Last I was there, they had a pier but don't know about the rules or how good the fishing is. |

| I love San Luis Obispo. That's about all I know. Spent most of the time watching my son play baseball, but snuck away with the youngest for some sightseeing. No idea on the fishing.

| reply to stormbow Yeah. Check out the Morro Bay area. I believe it's still has significant commercial fishing operations, but it's quiet enough there to not be bothered by "all the hustle and bustle" you want to want to avoid. It's one of mine and my wife's favorite weekend getaway spots. -- flickr gallery | photo blog (rarely updated) | play mafia! |

Great fishing on the charter boats at the Channel Islands (in background of the pier pic), and in the spring time the halibut/white seabass fishing at San Nicholas Island can't be beat.

| reply to ohdan1 You need to go to Cayucos, CA - North of San Luis Obispo on highway 1. I have never been there personally, but know someone that goes there and fishes from the pier. It's small, not a lot of tourists at all.
