Comcast shows off its new 'Barcelona' HD guide upgrade!

We've already gotten a large eyeful of Comcast's next-gen Xcalibur guide that's on the way next year with social networking tie ins and apps, but until that arrives, what can we hope for on the existing Scientific Atlanta, Cisco, and Motorola cable boxes? Sr. Director of Video Product Development Ted Hodgins has the answer, dropping in a link to the company's new Barcelona guide that it is already delivering to Anyroom DVR customers in Florida now, and will roll out in more markets before the end of the year. Like the upgraded guides we've seen for FiOS and TiVo, this iteration is built for HDTVs, with 16x9 graphics and far more listings information than was previously available on one screen. Other new features include the option to filter listings down to HD, premium, kids, movies, or sports content, easy jumping between days and saved searches. When we first laid eyes on another version of the software nearly four years ago we were impressed by its slick looks, but while it's still a major upgrade over the current decade-old cable box interfaces, in 2011 it takes more than a simple facelift to impress us. Hit the gallery for a few screenshots or click the source link below to meet the new guide before it rolls out in your area and see if its enough to hold you over for the time being.

Look at that empty space between xfinity and guide. Surely they can find a way to fit an ad in there

I agree...it does look nice. At this point I'm hoping we see it sometime in 2012, but I'm not holding my breath.

Not sure comcast has cable systems in Ohio, Oklahoma, Wisconsin or Wyoming, so my guess is not in those areas...

If that wasn't the actual schedule, that would be a little funny

Ha, on another note... a Comcast van was rolling through my 'hood the other day and checking all the poles. I chatted it up with the guy for a few minutes and he said he heard some signal correction in my line. Handed me a card with a number to call so someone else could check it out since they needed access to my house. Called the number on the card, it's some chick's personal voicemail. Ha. The scary thing was that I called Comcast (and stopped by the office, since I was passing by anyway) and they said they never heard of such a practice. LOL.

nice to half ass it.
Where is hide sd duplicates?

Hide channels you don't get / Hide premiums? (needed in some areas as the premiums are poorly layed out in the guide in some areas.

I think the Barcelona Guide is the On-Screen Guide 2.0. The following link points to a Xfinity web site with more information about On-Screen Guide 2.0:

Reviews:
·Comcast

That raises three concerns. The first being why hasn't anyone from Florida who has this guide posted screen shots? The second being why does Comcast seem to have an obsession with stock images of lighthouses? And the third being how long will it be until they decide to move onto another project and drop this. Think about it. They dropped the TiVo intergration on Motorola equipment in New England, they dropped other things, and what about the fact that they just rolled out the S25/A29 interface now they are gonna abandon that for this?

They don't usually drop things once they get to the "roll out within the next month" stage though, do they?

Who knows. I've been waiting for MyDVR for years around here. They certainly forgot to give me my discount for not having a service that the rest of the country has. Doubt I pay any less than someone who has access to that very important service. Buehler? Buehler?
