| [Pets] Miss Pie has left the stage... It has taken me a long time to post this.
My wonderful little Beagle of 19 years has left this life. My lovely little Pie, who has kept me and my other pets company for all these years, finally got caught by old age. Her hind end was getting very weak, and in early November, she stopped eating her dog food. I went shopping for her, and she ate like the queen that she was for as long as she would, until she finally gave up on people food too. So on 11/11/11, I called Doc from work and told him I was coming for a shot to sedate her, because I didn't want her to know that she was leaving the house. I left work early, and went to the clinic to get the shot; Doc gave me a shot that was actually a general anesthetic, instead of just a sedative, bless his heart.
I took Missey and Pie outside for their last time together; they have been buddies for all these years, and I wanted them to have some time together without the rest of the herd with them. It was a beautiful day out, and the two of them just rambled around in the yard together and enjoyed the sunshine and mild temps. I gave Pie her shot inside and waited till she was asleep, and then carried her out to the car. Drove to the clinic and laid her on a towel on the picnic table out back; it was just too nice to be inside. Doc came outside and put her to sleep, while I held her in my arms and cried. She's being cremated and will be brought home and buried under the Dogwood tree in the front yard.
R.I.P. my beautiful Pie, the sweetest Beagle to ever walk this planet. I will love you always and miss you forever.

| reply to jopfef That is a beautifully told heartwrenching story, and it's obvious that you both gave and got so much from each other. If only the whole world could be 1/10 as good to each other as you and Pie were, it would be a beautiful and wondrous place. Her last day with you was as good as all her others -- no better epitaph is needed than that. -- All of us get lost in the darkness, dreams learn to steer by the stars All of us do time in the gutter, dreamers turn to look at the cars Join Team Helix

As difficult a time as this is for you, I know in my heart Pie was as happy as any dog could be, and loved you unconditionally, and still does!
