If you "need" to watch four HD streams at once perhaps you should be paying more for the privilege?

By more you mean an absurdly over priced connection.

I pay $60/mo for 10/1 DSL service from Verizon. I do not regard this as "absurdly overpriced" and do not see why paying $100/mo for five times as much bandwidth is "absurdly overpriced".

Here's the history of my broadband connections:

2001-2003: 256k/256k from local WISP: $40/mo
2003-2004: 3.0m/256k from RR: $45/mo
2005-2006: 1.5m/384k dry loop from VZ: $40/mo
2006-2008: 3.0m/768k dry loop from VZ: $40/mo
2009-2010: 10m/1m from RR: $50/mo
2011-cur: 10m/1m dry loop from VZ: $60/mo

Adjusting the $40/mo I paid for 256k service in 2001 for inflation yields a value in 2011 dollars of about $50. For that price I can have FORTY TIMES as much bandwidth through Roadrunner. For $10 more I can have an even better DSL connection (no peak hour congestion) through Verizon.

Remind me again why my connection is "absurdly overpriced"? Tell me why paying twice that for five times as much bandwidth is unreasonable?

Having lived briefly in both Vietnam an South Korea with cheaper access I guess.

US rates are hyper inflated in comparison

The telco industry in Asia puts our to shame in a big way. Same goes for health care, which was a real eye opener to me.

Having affordable access to health care was a real Mind Fuck.
