Re: Naperville Show-me's is out of business

Both the safety and family friendly arguments were made.

I'm indifferent to those types of places. Think I've been to Hooters 3 times in my life. Never been to a showmes or tilted kilt. I prefer good food over eye candy. It does piss me off though when they oppose practical things like a grocery store. It took years of fighting for Des Plaines to get a White castle because the fogies on the board though it would bring in "bad elements". WTF?

What really pisses me off is I see a new building being built and think, "I hope it's something cool". And it ends up being another fucking bank or walgreens. People should oppose that shit.

They did kill a possible Walgreens near 75th and Wehrli. I think that was a good idea. My friend owned the parcel there and I was not happy when it was reported that they considered selling to Walgreens.

It was just temporary. It's a Walgreens now

Walgreen's has a top secret (really 0 it is) formula for measuring street traffic and other factors to decide where to locate stores. It is considered the most effective process for store locations there is. Other stores go where Walgreen's builds based on the fact that Walgreen's decides it's a good spot for them. They almost never close a store because the location turned out to be bad.

That said, what works for them might not for other businesses. Still, it's interesting that they've worked out some algorithm that others haven't figured out.

Well, it's a bunch of crap, particularly as it applies to this particular location. The only reason the land was sold to my friend was that there was a commitmen to open a private Christian school on that location. When the plans for that fell through for some reason, the land was then sold to Walgreens.

The lady would never have sold the land if she'd known it was going to be sold for commercial purposes. It ticks me off that it got sold for retail crap.

Oh, i totally get where your coming from. Granted i escaped the bubble known as dupage and moved into the city for a while. I look back and think to myself, what are you people doing worrying about shit that doesn't affect anybody??? Isn't there bigger issues to deal with than a hooters type restaurant? (And from the sounds of the comments, you think it was some dungeon sex club or some shit! It's freaking girls in tank tops!!!)

And I for one, among others, didn't want that in the community in which I live.

Just the usual trite NIMBY stuff. Trite and self-centered.

And most folks - at least writing here - have a good perspective on it all. They have their reasons for living where they do and understand the pros and cons and don't play a silly zero-sum game.

A few seem to live where they live out of fear of what some other place might be like. And no girls in tank tops dammit!

And some live in communities that remind them of their hometowns and feel most comfortable there.

And based on the looks of the naperville police cars, they're going for the 1950's look.

I meant in the sense that I haven't seen anything about them that made me take notice. I live about a mile south-east of the police station, so I see them fairly often. But I didn't see anything that struck me as being different.
