Oh_NoTrogglus normalus join:2011-05-21 Chicago, IL | DSL Over Cap I have had ATT DSL for years, but now they sent me an email saying I was over my cap. Will they actually disconnect me for good as I know I will go over 150GB periodically since their cap is too low to make sense for a 6 meg connection? I will refuse to pay any extra money if they try to rip me off, so will I have to find a new ISP? (I will keep them as long as they take my payments, but eventually will they disconnect me?) |

Oh_NoTrogglus normalus join:2011-05-21 Chicago, IL | I will refuse to pay any extortion charges. I am wondering what they will do? Will they give in and stop capping me to keep getting my money?
I have never paid for my usage and I am no going to start now, it makes no sense. |

FrohikePremium join:2000-07-23 Waxahachie, TX kudos:4 | reply to Oh_No Last time I checked, if you have an unpaid balance, you will get disconnected for non-pay. Then the balance will eventually goto a collection agency if its still unpaid.
Then your credit takes a hit... |

Then your credit takes a hit... I have perfect credit. Im not worried about ATT trying to screw me out of $10 or any collections company as I never agreed to caps. I would rather spend money getting a lawyer involved over $10 than to give ATT money above what I paid for my connection.
I was just wondering if they are actually enforcing their unfair practice or if they will give in to keep getting your monthly payment?? If they are actually enforcing it then they will lose my business and I will go elsewhere.
Is there anyone on this forum that has delt with ATT actually trying to charge them again for bandwidth they already paid for in their monthly subscription?? |

FrohikePremium join:2000-07-23 Waxahachie, TX kudos:4 | reply to Oh_No What I don't understand - AT&T gave ample warning about the upcoming caps. Why didn't you stop your service then and find another ISP?
Since you didn't stop your service, you basically told AT&T it was ok for this change in service billing and agreed to the new changes in the ToS. |

Oh_NoTrogglus normalus join:2011-05-21 Chicago, IL | I had a contract that started before caps and never agreed to caps. I figured the caps thing was more a scare tactic and they would not actually turn away paying customer that are profitable for them.
I am wondering if anyone knows of someone that was actually denied service by ATT for not paying their anti-internet video fee. I really dont see why they would want to lose paying/profitable customers by enforcing this. |

3 edits | reply to Oh_No I would like to see how this turns out as well. 150 gigs on a 6 meg connection is pathetic.
Also, if you dispute a telco charge on your credit it usually doesn't ding you. Do you know how many people have valid telco disputes over billing issues? A shit load.
The principle of credit based on unsecured debt is dieing a very slow death. Not coincidentally, so is easy credit. |

 | reply to Oh_No Is the u-verse ip-dslam internet only 150 gb also. If not and it is 250gb maybe that would be an option. If i'm not mistaken you can get it just about anywhere regular at&t dsl is. At least in my area and it's pretty rural.
Also another option may be to switch to 3rd party provider dslextreme or earthlink. no cap over there yet. |

| reply to DataRiker The point here is this is technically not a "valid dispute" in theory as it is not a billing error so to speak. As for the OP, you are better off finding a new ISP but it seems they are all heading that way. What other options do you have in your area? |

| Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian are not able to investigate teleco disputes very far.
Basically its your word vs theirs. And there are literally so many valid disputes this one gets thrown in with the rest.
Its impact on your credit score is non existent if you dispute the charge on your report and put up even minimal resistance. |

 | reply to Oh_No how this dsl will work............. |
|
 | reply to Gib4500 Nope, the IPDSL they are treaing as u-verse and thus 250. and no not everwhere ADSL is there is u-verse, if so there would be no ADSL any longer as it would make no sence to maintain 2 networks. |
|
 | I'v got no cap here. they'v got uverse and dsl here. I'v got no cap here curently and i'v got earthlink dsl even though it's still on at&t dsl adsl network. Your actually wrong because there's lots of people that are still on adsl at&t network that have the option of switching to u-verse. I have the option of getting u-verse ipdslam adsl2 from at&t but i would have a 250 gb cap. 3rd party dsl provider earthlink or dslextreme (through at&t network currently doesn't have a cap). |
|
 | reply to OSUGoose i think i misunderstood your post initially, but around here they have both uverse and dsl. they are pushing u-verse but a lot of people including myself still are on the dsl. I don't know of any at&t areas currently that aren't offering u-verse ipdslam. remember that is different than u-verse vdsl. |
