| [3DTV] ESPN3D Coming? Moving to a new location and looking to drop Comcast for RCN, but it doesn't look like RCN has ESPN3D or any other 3D channels. I have a 3DTV so this is fairly important to me. Is this indeed the case and does anyone know if adding 3D broadcast channels is in the pipeline |
|
 | There has been nothing but radio silence the last couple of times this question has been asked. Hopefully one of these times someone will answer, and hopefully with good news |

 | reply to owine In the Chicago market, there is VOD content that is 3D (movies mostly PPV) and HBO on Demand has 3D content. |

 | reply to owine if it does die it won't be anytime soon...movie studios are pushing 3D movies out in high volume with a lot of big budget future productions being done in 3D (The Hobbit for one)...plus with big time directors like James Cameron, Scorsese and Spielberg behind the format 3D will not be going anywhere anytime soon |

 | reply to owine There's like 4 broadcast 3d channels right now. Carrying them would hardly be "flooding the spectrum." If the cable company down the road can offer 3-4 3D channels and still carry 110 HD channels and up to 105 mbps internet speeds, why can't RCN?
The only real answer is "They don't want to," and that's fine. But those of us with the technology available to us are still free to advocate for it, and encourage others to as well so RCN can hear if it something their subscribers want. |

So say RCN brought the 3D channels (the 4 or so that are available), you'd pucker up say, the $14.95/month (guessing) for them?
Personally, I could never get a 3D TV because my fiancé is unable to view 3D movies/TV because she gets an instant migraine. For that reason, there are MILLIONS of people just like her, cable companies are going to panic to add 3D. |

1 edit | reply to shadyman777 not going to happen...3D movies and 3D TV's go hand-in-hand...one feeds the other...plus the best 3D TV's also make the best 2D sets...so it's not like people have to choose one over the other...even lower end models have 3D capabilities nowadays
I bought my first 3DTV last year (Panasonic VT30 plasma) and surprisingly love the 3D...I was not a big fan of 3D movies at all but the 3D effects look tons better at home versus in the theater |

| reply to owine I have a passive 3D set which is eons better than the active sets. There is no annoying flicker effect. I was not planning on getting a 3DTV, but they are becoming so prevalent these days that the best HDTVs are also 3DTVs and they are under $1,000 now. The glasses are annoying, but with the passive sets you use the same lightweight glasses as in theaters and it's far better. And they're dirt cheap.
Honestly they just need really two channels or even one. ESPN3D is pretty much the only widely available 3D broadcast channel, and RCN already adds a channel for 3D special events so that could remain part time or become full time. I'd be willing to pay extra for these channels myself and I am sure others would. Early adoption price. |
|
 | reply to owine At this point, it appears that RCN is one of the only providers that does not yet include 3D channels in their standard HD lineup. If RCN is interested in staying in the game, I think they need to step up and start offering the 3 - 4 channels that currently broadcast in 3D.
Comcast, ATT U-Verse, Verizon FIOS, and DirecTV all now have 3D channels included in their standard HD channel lineup without any additional fees for the 3D content. I fail to understand why RCN is not following suit to keep up with their competition. With the latest price increase, they are no longer cheaper than Comcast in the Chicago market. |
