| Adding image border with GIMP For the life of me can not figure out how to add a simple border around an image using GIMP. Just need a 1 or 2 pixel border around it and color #808080, can't afford other graphics software.
The help from GIMP web site doesn't help, or that i have no idea what to look for.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
If its helps any, I've attached the image. |

I've used PSP in the past, and liked it, had no problems making images the way I wanted, quite easy. |

Gunga DinPremium join:2005-12-15 Bellmore, NY kudos:5 1 edit | Any time. Another way would be to create a new blank canvas slightly larger, fill with a color and drop the smaller image into the colored layer. I don't know if it needed to be changed to JPG but that is what I usually do, due to the limitation of a gif image. -- ~ Project Hope ~ ~ Team Discovery ~ |

BillMh join:2010-04-18 Washougal, WA | From what I remember with PSP, there is more steps to take with GIMP for adding borders then PSP.
Something to play around with, appreciate the response. |

PS there are still tubes you can find for borders in PSP that are fairly easy also. |

I didn't like Corel at first but haven't looked lately, lots of others use it though and seem to like it however there are a lot use Gimp also which they say is close to photoshop in what it can do.
PS Dandy is fine -- Spare computer cycles can help find answers Find A Cure!

I've used PSP in the past, and liked it, had no problems making images the way I wanted, quite easy. Yes, you can add borders in Paint.Net. You first select the secondary color from the color picker drop-down and then go to Image -> Canvas Size and select the border size/orientation from the dialog box. Here's a tutorial with screen-shots. »www.meguiarsonline.com/forums/sh···aint-NET
It's super easy in PSP. You go to Image -> Borders and select the color and size/orientation.
You just missed a terrific Black Friday sale on PSP X4 - it was $39.00 but is now back up to $79.00. Keep an eye on Corel's website as they periodically reduce the price. -- The voices may not be real, but they have some pretty good ideas. . . |

PSP is quite easy, just 2 clicks.
Next summer may invest in PSP, then again might keep it the free software, time will tell. |

Attached is a movie I made showing how to easily add a border to an image in Gimp. I'm on a Mac but there shouldn't be any significant difference in Windows or Linux. If you check it out, please respond in this thread so I'll know about it. »www.youtube.com/watch?v=2l7Ucan1···youtu.be -- You Can't Kill Rock 'n' Roll! |

| So sorry, had completely forgotten about this thread.
Looks good and thank you, and I use Linux now, and also use GIMP. Decided that I am doing away with that domain in the screenshots though, I'll figure out how to replace with new domain soon, real soon. |

I just couldn't stand anyone disliking the GIMP. It's great software, and I encourage anyone to donate to them and to the OS X port groups instead of buying Adobe Elements. -- You Can't Kill Rock 'n' Roll! |
