DrDrew join:2009-01-28 Apple Valley, CA kudos:6 | I'm unlucky enough to still have SARA on Charter. They sent out notice 2 months ago saying it was supposed to be replaced in my area, but hasn't yet. So meanwhile I'm stuck with a box that crashes every week or two and I have to power cycle to watch VOD.
Even if your box could have SARA reloaded on it, it'll get replaced shortly after connecting it to your home cable system.
Probably every provider running SARA loses customers over it because it looks so old and out of date. It's the clunkiest GUI for any digital cable box still being used, every provider has a newer looking guide with more features in most of the service areas. -- If it's important, back it up... twice. Even 99.999% availability isn't enough sometimes. |

Back in the day, SARA was butt-ugly to look at, but than it was reliable. SARA was actually a prototype guide that was designed for cable platforms way back around the year 2000. It came with the OS, and many cable providers at the time went with it to save money.
Because TWC Navigator is exclusive to TWC, I don't think Charter would have that as an upgrade option, probably the newest version of I-Guide. Keep us posted for updates!

I have not watched cable TV for over a year now,I CANT STAND HOW SLOW IT IS AND HOW UGLY IT IS!!!!! |

DrDrew join:2009-01-28 Apple Valley, CA kudos:6 | Get a new box and let the latest guide version load. There have been a few updates over the last year. Otherwise turn the box in so your dad doesn't have to pay almost 10 a month for something your not using |

I have not watched cable TV for over a year now,I CANT STAND HOW SLOW IT IS AND HOW UGLY IT IS!!!!! What does the OS of your STB have to do with you watching cable TV ? It you are not using the STB return it to the office and save your father a few bucks a month.
What are your issues with it? Ugly isn't a description of the problem.
What does "slow" mean? |

Re: Is anyone lucky enough to still have Sara?? OK, cyph - I know which provider most of those guide come from, but not sure about a couple of them...
The 3rd one down is FiOS, right?
Who is the provider w/the one that says "Virgin Media", AND who is the one w/the blueish guide below it???
Then who is the greenish one that says Cisco on it, below the Xfinity one???
The last one is Moxi, right?
Just want to keep up on on this stuff... |

| Ok In order...
DirecTV HD UI (HR20 and newer DVR's H21 and newer HD set tops)
Windows Media Center 7
FIOS IMG 1.9
Dish Network vip922 DVR
Comcast/Xfinity On Screen Guide 2.0 (Tru2Way)
Virgin Media UK 3-Tuner Tivo (What DirecTivo SHOULD HAVE been)
Rovi Passport (Tru2Way) - To be sold to a US provider (Likely upgrade path for current Passport MSO's)
Cox Trio (NDS)
XFinity Spectrum (On Screen Guide 3.0)
Cisco Blue IPTV - To be sold to a US provider (Charter's CEO expressed some interest)
Moxi HD
And finally worst of them all, SARA. |
