We had a major windstorm last Wednesday and just got our power back Sunday afternoon. I live on a property with one other resident (separate building). We get our land line service from the same pole and in fact their drop comes to my building and then goes underground to their building. We have separate numbers and AT&T recognizes two addresses.
My phone and DSL are up and functioning while the other resident has neither. Via a recording AT&T says that the earliest they can get out here is Friday. Are there things I can do in the meantime to troubleshoot? We have gone around and made sure that all phones are in their cradles. Power is up to both buildings.
We've got a very old NID (NID/Demarc) from what I read. There are 4 terminals (I assume for 2 lines?). The wires are not color coded going to the terminals (black).
Update; the problem was 2 poles away so nothing I could have done. The tech worked on it for over 3 hours so I'll ask him later what he encountered. I am puzzled why my service was restored after the power to the area was restored and the other occupant's was not. We are getting a new NID however.
It's not hard to imagine one wire out of a bundle breaking when the whole bundle gets excessively stressed. And if the whole cable broke when a tree branch landed on it and someone had to rebuild it, it's easy to see how he might have messed up one wire.
