 | Trouble with Repeater and 2701HG-B Hi. I have a 2701HG-B modem/wireless router that I got last year. Like the Belkin wireless router, it is unable to reach the opposite corner of my house. I purchased an ASUS WL-330gE device that can work as a repeater. Set up was no problem. While I would have access to the home network and can share files, I could not access the internet. Every laptop that I have in the house had the same problem and could link on to the ASUS without a problem. However, once linked on to the ASUS, it would not transfer to 2Wire even though the 2Wire strength would be stronger.
Oddly, my iPhone (if I toggled off the wifi and then on again), could access the internet.
I approached the problem with ASUS and various attempts such as resetting the SSID, changing from WPA2 to WPA (even turning off the security temporarily), firmware upgrades (on the ASUS), decreasing the strength of the passphrase and finally, getting a new unit, did not help. The new (but refurbished) unit came up with the same problem which made me think that the problem was with the 2Wire modem/wireless router.
Has anyone got a repeater to work with the 2701HG-B? Does anyone have ideas on what I can do to get the repeater to work? Thanks. |

|
 1 edit | Sorry. A double post. |
|
1 edit | reply to wayjac Thanks for the help. I really appreciate the effort. The following information was retrieved when only one computer was on and connected to the ASUS repeater. As stated earlier, the computer connected to the ASUS has home network access, but not internet access.
Settings are new below. |

|
 | It looks like I did do that. I'll change it back to default settings and see what happens. Thanks. |
|
 | Resetting to default did not solve the problem. Bummer. |

wayjacPremium,MVM join:2001-12-22 Indy | The ipconfig results show that the wireless lan adapter is connected to the 2701HG and has internet access
What is the ip address of the asus |
|
 | The repeater is set to obtain an IP address automatically. I suspect it might change if another device occupies that address. The address has changed since I printed the ipconfig /all settings since I removed the restriction on the range of IP addresses. It is now 192.168.1.70. I don't know what it was previously. It might have been 192.168.1.30. Would it be better to give the ipconfig settings again and then check the ASUS address? |

The repeater's default ip address 192.168.1.1 is ok to use because it's in the 2wire static ip range
Are you certain the repeater is in repeater mode |

2 edits | It is quite possible that I am getting everything mixed up. My understanding of networking is very limited. Perhaps if I upload what I see, it may help. I reset everything so that I have all the settings and data correct. Here is the ipconfig /all settings with the ASUS at 192.168.1.66:

I have uploaded the screen for device detection (using the ASUS software) which occurs when I plug the device into the LAN and the software searches for the device (please note the IP address changed from 192.168.1.70 to 192.168.1.66 when I unplugged the device and plugged it back in to get all the information together). I have also uploaded the request to obtain an automatic IP address screen (this wasn't an option screen, it was information telling me to select the automatic IP address). I thought it meant for the ASUS. The final picture is the advanced settings which allowed for the automatic IP address selection.
Sorry for the large pictures. I don't upload pictures often. |

wayjacPremium,MVM join:2001-12-22 Indy | The pictures are very very helpful...... The asus is in repeater mode Select the Use the following IP address option and enter this ip address 192.168.1.1 this will stop the asus ip from changing |
|
 | Would a fixed IP address give access to the internet for the laptops? The device had a fixed IP address of 192.168.1.220, but as seen in the second uploaded picture, an automatic IP address was required for internet access. That's why I selected automatic IP address for the device in the first place.
Of course, there's no harm in trying. The addresses my 2701HG-B gives are 192.168.1.60 - 192.168.1.254. Would 192.168.1.1 be a problem? |

Making the asus ip address 192.168.1.1 will not be a problem |

 | Thank you for all the effort you have placed into this problem I have. Unfortunately, setting the IP address to 192.168.1.1 did not have any effect on the problem.
This is the second device I have that has done the same thing. I am thinking that the 2701HG-B is incompatible in some way to this device. Given the number of positive reviews on Newegg, I didn't think I would run into this problem.
I was considering putting the 2701HG-B in modem mode only or bridge mode and using my Belkin wireless router to see if that would make a difference. Does that sound like something that would work? I would rather just use the 2701HG-B with the repeater since it's less clutter. |

Would you post a picture of this asus page

 | When I click on the Quick Setup, I get the first picture that I uploaded. I figured that wasn't what you were asking for. The first image uploaded is the repeater settinngs. I have also included the screens for wireless set up. |

wayjacPremium,MVM join:2001-12-22 Indy | Ok the settings look ok to me When you connect to the repeater via wifi can you access the 2wires configuration pages |
|
 | If the ASUS settings look okay, does the problem of connecting to the internet lie with the 2701HG-B? To note, when the ASUS is having trouble accessing the internet, the 2701HG-B has no trouble connecting to the internet. Does the fact that the ASUS can access home network, but not the internet indicate the level where the problem exists? |

You should try your idea of putting the 2701 in bridge mode and using the belkin wireless router |
