How to find citation number

My friend got a ticket in San Diego and lost the piece of paper. She accidentally mixed up the address she gave to the cop and never received a courtesy notice.

She cannot pay the ticket without the citation number and she cannot get anyone to answer the phone at the court. Any ideas about how to find the citation number for that ticket without waiting in line or on hold for hours?

She might be able to get a police officer to look it up for her. Of course, the circumstances in getting a police officers attention is entirely up to her.

Naturally, this would need to be done in San Diego. LAPD ain't gonna have access to the same info.

Also...not sure but the court might have a website where she can enter her drivers license # in lieu of the citation # to pay online.

Go to the an office of the agency she got the ticket from (CHP, SDPD, Sheriff, etc) and explain the circumstances. Make sure it is done quickly because once it goes to warrant she'll need more than just an "I lost my copy" excuse. She may need to go to the office of the court the ticket was assigned to and wait in line if the PD can't assist.

Thanks for that first idea. I suggested that she ask a random police officer:
a. if they are able to look up citation numbers and
b. if they are prohibited from disclosing the citation numbers to the person cited.
(she had a long schpeel). Maybe she can call...

I will ask a police officer those questions myself if I see the opportunity.

Its easy to look up ticket info on the SD website, but only with a citation number (and a birthdate).

Thanks @Waldothe3rd. Probably easiest to visit a substation. I know from personal experience that courthouse is a nightmare.
