Re: XboX 360 New Dashboard Update 2011

I read about 3 or 400 hundred posts on rants about the new dashboard the other night and only a hand full of people liked it that I could find and even then they had pointed out some things that they hate. The thing that ticks me off the most is ads for gold members shame on you ms and chuck Norris. Chuck Norris is what made me quit my wow sub when I first saw the ad on tv. For some reason I cant use my xbox 360 anymore like i did before there is just something about the new dashboard that makes me want to turn off my 360 I dont know what it is but I am going to store it in my closet for a year or so and go back to my pc for gaming before I make my mind up about keeping it. I will give it some time to mature but if nothing changes i will sell my 360

If the dashboard, nothing which is seen or has anything to do with playing a game(last time I checked, this is why you purchase a GAMING console), is going to keep you from turning your xbox on, then good riddance.

The Xbox 360 wasn't meant just for gaming, if anything this helps sell more 360's. You can still play games, this new update doesn't prevent that. The PS3 is the same way too, if not the Wii.

Never said it was only for gaming, however, gaming is its main use. The gaming option doesn't help sell more of them, its the other stuff that does. Spending the money on a console for the extras like netflix, hulu, etc(which usually, if not always, require a gold subscription in addition to the normal sub for the service) and not to game or game very little, is just silly.

Plus, this dashboard isn't really that bad, it's just different than what we had before. Something like this shouldnt deter anyone from using the console.

I like the new dash as I use my console for more then just gaming and I use a kinect so I like not having to get a controller first to watch a movie, or play a kinect game etc.

Toss in that Kinect games are getting better at using the Kinect and I'm starting to get a better you are the controller experience. Kinect Sport Season 2 for example is nice, if I want to see an overview of the hole in golf I raise my hand to my brow like I'm looking at something, if I want to change clubs, I say change club, if I want to see what the green is like I crouch down like I was on a real green, in short the Kinect is really starting to get it.

Maybe this is just me, but every time I turn on my Xbox360 and log into XBL, I get the message saying there is a problem with my connection. It prompts me to either choose "OK" or to test my connection. So I run the test and it passes and I am able to sign on without issue after that. Happens every day when I go to sign in and began with the damn update. Never happened before that, same console and the internet settings haven't changed. It's a minor issue, but WTF...

Mine did that too for awhile. Do you have more than one XBL account on that console does one of them have automatic sign in? The account that had auto-sign as soon as I signed them out and signed me in I got the connection error. It seems as soon as I turned off auto-sign in for that account I haven't had that problem. Of course the 2 might not be related.

I get the same thing. Multiple accounts. Auto sign in off. I also get signing in for about a minute now. Takes a lot longer then it used to.

Minor thing. When using Zune Video Marketplace...do any of you get a pop up window with 4 options about watching stuff already on your xbox only to have it disappear? It's almost like they forgot to remove something when they updated it?

I really like the Cloud thing they added and being able to download your profile at whatever xbox your on. I have 2 in my house and my kids were always mad when they went down stairs to play the saved game from the upstairs machine didnt load there game up where they left off. With this cloud no more need for a usb for little files like that!

How much storage do you get with your Cloud share?

It's 512 MB. Basically just enough for your profile and maybe a few game saves.

I hate how xbox hard drives are so small.

230GB isn't small unless you downloaded a lot of Demos and never deleted them after playing or videos, which is why when I'm done playing a demo or watching a video I've downloaded, I delete them.

You're not taking into account DLC or full games you get via download.

I picked up the 320gb gears console about a month ago since it was on sale on Newegg. I have about 140gbs left. I had a 120gb before and it felt like every week I had to delete something.

i like the latest dashboard updates.

it's certainly faster than it used to be in my experience.

regarding storage, i have the 250gb hd, with about 43gb of free space left. i have a TON of dlc, and a large collection of games installed, some of which i haven't played in months. i haven't felt limited since i upgraded from my original 20gb hard drive.

The 250GB HD was definitely a good investment for me as, like Mudvayne said, felt like I was having to delete something every other week.

As for the update, I really wish they would completely get rid of the ads. If not that, then at least move the shit off to the side boxes instead of featuring prominently in middle when I don't give two shits about 99% of anything they advertise.
