Re: Lease vs Finance or Own?

said by I AM:

Me personally I would never buy a car that has a salvaged title. It's a pain in the near and far future with those cars. I'm against leasing as well. Why not just finance and pay monthly? You really get nothing after leasing a car.

I bought a 2004 corolla S on ebay after katrina with a salvaged hurricane title. I won the bid for $8,500 in 2006 for it. At the time a 2004 corolla S was about 14K so I got a great deal.
I had it inspected by the toyota dealer before I gave the ebay dealer the money.
I was told the car was most likely titled due to the area it was registered in as it had no evidence of flood damage and the toyota mechanic said it was a great deal.

All I can say is in 6 years and about 75,000 miles I have basically had 0 problems with the car. The only thing I had to do was get shims installed on the rear wheels as they were out of alignment and were not adjustable. Best deal I ever made in buying a car.

There is nothing wrong with a salvage car if you know what you are looking for or pay someone who does to inspect the car before you buy it.
I will say anyone that buys a used car without a paying someone qualified to inspect it is crazy.

It's just loses its value much faster when its salvage and also harder to sell.

I dont really think that was that good of a deal for a salvage title corolla s car. Nobody said they were less reliable because they are not less reliable. They are just worth a lot less because they were damaged and repaired. The op got a great deal because of the percentage based on what the car cost when new.

Mine was water-flood, but there was no sign of water inside the vehicle interior, maybe the headlights because they were very foggy. My salvage just passed its 1st birthday with me and its also my first car.

Since I only drive 2-3x a week now because work schedule permits me to convenient use mass transit and save a lot more $$ looks like I will be keeping my car a little longer.
