2 edits | Modern Warfare 3 - Xbox360/PS3 Best Solutions and Testing This thread is created for people that are interested in optimizing their connection to the game Modern warfare 3 for the XBOX360, as you may know that previous in the world of warcraft there was alot of issues with connections to their servers. Blizzard, keeped pushing this back on the ISP's stating that it was the ISP's fault, when actually it was the way that the traffic was routed and was blocking p2p traffic.
From my understanding Modern Warfare 3 uses everyone's connection as a host, this is because they are cheap and dont want to have to pay for bandwidth nor have to rent a dedicated servers and virtualize into 20 different servers throughout the world.
The information that I have gathered on this particular game is that when the match making process begins its pings everyone and trys to match people within the 50ms lobby then 75ms lobby then 100ms lobby then 150ms lobby , they try to match people within the same network, essential that would mean that anyone playing on BHN's network or roadrunner should be matched pretty quickly.
If your having problems trying to find lobbies that are 50ms or at least 75ms here are some helpful tips.
XboX360 / PS3 on the router ensure that your wan is not blocking the ping, make sure that your NAT is set to OPEN, make sure your firewall does not have SPI/QOS on.
If anyone has any information on how the game design works exactly, please do post it, I know that from the developers of the game that they where having issues with the matchmaking process, but with the 4 updates that they pushed out, these issues should have been corrected.
Even if your not have issues, let me know how many lobbies your are able to find at the lobby 50ms or lobby 75ms and what is your connection type (roadrunner basic, turbo, lighting if you have television/voip) time of day.
If you ever thought that your bullets where not registering you are probably correct, because if your in a game that is higher than 75ms by the time the packet travels to the host and responds back the host identifies as what should be registered. I hear alot of people saying "I know i shot that guy like 10 times" this is either because the latency of the network is high or your experiencing packet loss.
please feel free to post any useful information or even if you want to just play with people that are within the brighthouse network then post your gamertag.
My GT: IXI D1G1TAL IXI feel free to send friend requests or if you just want to play on the same network. -- "Im going to set out who I was meant to be, for all those that stand in my way, im tearing down ya'lls balcony"....
Nothing is impossible, Just Improbable. |

 | Off Topic: For all those that are experiencing spodaric disconnects from XBOX live with the new dashboard, this is normal, they delayed this update due to this. There should be a hotfix coming out shortly. |

 | I turn mine on / off - depends i havent had had any improvements with it on nor with it off.. |
|
 | I've tried every trick under the sun and nothing really helps. Turn of the camera, set up then re set up my router, run direct to the modem,(definitely not my connection as I work for my isp as an in house technician) not enter into a party or party chat. Nothing really seems to work. I just quit out (rage quit) when a games lag becomes too much of an issue. Activision needs to stop playing around dust off their hundred million dollar wallet and create Cod dedicated servers. |

Re: Modern Warfare 3 - Xbox360/PS3 Best Solutions and Testing No new info since they have sent out more patches (host compensation, lag compensation or whatever that is)?
I do have a comment/question. I thought it WAS NOT a good idea to make you pingable when gaming due to little idiots DDoSing.
Why turn off QoS? I have a friend that is a forensic IT specialist and he said to always make sure you put everything in QoS, but yes, turn off SPI.
I do mostly get in games @ 50ms & 75ms but my problem is that some 3 bar (green bar) people just plainly suck the life out of my connection. When they join in (friends or randoms), I can't get a kill (literally going 4-14) but yet they are the ones pulling off 30-7 kills per game. I'm almost always 4 green bar. I don't get it. |

I prefer to follow the RFC and be pingable...i have been pingable for 10 years without a problem. I consider stealth to be snakeoiul and misleading because it does not make your computer invisible online...that is marketing hype.
Ports that are CLOSED are just as secure as ports that are STEALTH
Take the Code Red Worm...it hammered systems that had stealthed ports...the point that some of them were DOS offline...on the other hand...if you respond to ping, it would ping my box, my box would reply that ports are closed, and it moved on....the stealth boxes on the other hand got hammered with thousands of requests...nmap is capable of scanning stealth systems....your not really stealth....if someone wants to DDOS you...you being stealth or not matters little...
I have heard and researched both sides of the argument, but i decided to be pingable long ago and have had no problems....I would rather conform to international standards like the RFC's then go along with marketing hype. The lack of a response is a response in itself.
read the following thread
»Closed vs Stealthed Ports
As long as your ports are closed and your router is set up properly...you shouldn't have any issues being pingable...in fact...i bet useless probes in your routers logs decrease....if your using port forwarding for your xbox, just forward the ports needed to a static IP assigned to the Xbox or put the Xbox in a DMZ(Your choice...i would reccomend port forwarding)
As i said before, I would rather follow the RFC and follow the standards set up for the internet...i see Stealth ports as hiding behind a tree...its not sound security...having ports and services closed and forwarding what you need to your xbox is... |

Woody79_00I run Linux am I still a PC?Premium join:2004-07-08 united state | reply to X Digital X All Call of Duty games are battles of connection....there are not "great players" only great connection...honestly..the difference between a bad player and a good player is connection...many don't realize how small a margin that actually is.
there is not much you can do to lower latency other then lowering your MTU(But this can make download speeds slower, and lowering it too much can cause other problems)
However, the god awful netcode/p2p system used by Activision/IW/Treyarch to do these games does not help matters any at all.
One day i'll have a great time with a good connection and beast...the next day...blah...can't kill no one...i have more negative days then positive days because im always a second behind everyone else.....
I have a ping around 20 to 25 ms all over the USA from various servers from Virgina to California...i have a 22 down 4 up connection from Comcast DOCSIS 3...im using a Cisco Router(Business class i bought, not some cheap consumer router) Im a Windows/Linux Network Admin its what i do.....it matters not.....my connection.
On Black ops and MW3..if im in a lobby with a guy with a 2 or 3 bar...the guy with the 2 or 3 bar will own...i have only had 3 games so far in a year of playing Black Ops where i had less then 4 bars...in MW3 i have yet to have less then a 4 bar...don't matter...im still behind half the time...I have tried 3 diff TVS made no difference...same with HDMI cables...I have exhausted every possible option...its connection im telling ya.
I have observed that the "better" your connection is...the more lag compesation will hold you back...thus get you killed...for giggles i went to my neighbors house last night...and used his 1.5 ATT DSL line..i was pulling a 2 or a 3 bar in 10 games and i owned...even though the system said my connection was trash...
I think pulling host is the kiss of death...and i pull host alot...and i get punked because of it.
oh well i just like to play, the sound of the guns is so much fun lol |
