| "Our residential customers who were without power as of noon on Saturday, November 5, as a result of the October snow storm, are eligible for a credit applied to their February 2012 CL&P bill."
Isn't that only about 10% of the customers?
Personally, I don't see CL&P as responsible for this; after all, it was an "act of God". But I can see how we've become "entitled" to 24x7 electrical service (all while complaining of the cost).

| reply to orion940 Granted, our power was on during all of this. But it was out during Irene. I never looked for a refund. I figured since the power was out; we weren't paying for it. That's just me though. -- I ski at Mount Snow |

ctgreybeardOld dogs can learn new tricksPremium join:2001-11-13 Bethel, CT | I had that thought too, we weren't paying for what they didn't deliver. But after I bought a generator (mostly to keep the freezer cold) and used it during the snow storm I did have an added expense due to the length of the outage. A day, maybe two, would have been fine. But it doesn't look like I'll qualify anyway as we got our power back on Wednesday. Oh well ... -- Old dogs can learn new tricks! |

| I just got a robo-call from CL&P saying that I qualified for monies and to be sure I applied.
I think the refund is not a refund but partial payment for any damages, etc. Either way, I'm not going to refuse money.

| reply to orion940 We were without power until that Sunday I think, I am not sure, maybe it was Saturday. I suppose a penalty on CL&P might be called for, but every lineperson I passed by got a thumbs up from me, but they all seemed quite defensive. I don't blame those guys though, but how the corp handled the thing using just that one guy we saw on TV to take all of the grief, well...
I don't think they should be passing out money, but just using money to add linepersons and better infrastructure. God save us if any REAL disaster hits, what will we be out then? 2 months?
Personally, I think a national project to bury all power cables to protect us from solar storms and this sort of misery should be looked into. Sooner or later a CME is going to pass this way and put all high tension lines into fry mode. It will be a huge disaster, too. -- Join Teams Helix and Discovery. 1 edit | reply to orion940 I would be inclined to believe the CL&P damage control refunds are inspired largely by their traditional failure to mobilize outside help until after the event is finished. I saw line crew trucks from OK in the neighborhood. From eastern most OK to western most CT is a 24 hour, 1450 mile drive. I would want to guess that in line crew travel math, that would be a three or four day road trip, AFTER the storm was over.
As for hearing CL&P blame street plowing for the lengthy outages - please, stop. You're hurting my ears.
We were among the lucky few with a mere 48 hour outage. It surely does push me farther along the "I'm going to get a gen set one of these days" ideal. Brother lost his power for a week. He now has a shiny new 12K gen set at his house. |

 | I put in my application last week. We were without power for seven days. Saturday would have been the eighth day for us. If they don't compensate, I think we should all bring a class action against CL&P. I spent $240 on fuel for my generator during that time. Others have spent far more. I only ran my 16 hours a day, and got by on 6 gallons per day, but others used much more, according to posts on CL&P's FB wall. If they reimburse $200, I'll let the rest slide. We didn't pay this months' bill because the money normally allocated to it was spent on gasoline last month for the outage. Back in 2002, we were out of power for 8 days and I still had a freezer full of meat that we lost.. about $700 worth. Never got reimbursed for that either. June 9: no power for four days. Irene: No power for 3 days October 29: no power for 7 days.
This is just ridiculous. Like a 3rd world country. |

GA In reality, if I did not use any electric from the company then I should not pay for it. Plus the incompetence of CL&P upper management is to blame for the delays in repair. Either CL&P gives some restitution for their screw up or I agree in a class action suite. The best thing about this is that if you get a refund it is in your pocket not some lawyers after a class action suite.
In todays world we rely on electric, oil, gas, propane, and so on in order to live as this is how homes are built today. I would love to cut the connection but frankly I dont have the money to do so. Granted if technology had advanced while homes did not (meaning we lived around the fire in so speaking) then I would think differently. |
